Getting out of the red

An email was sent to me from my sister and I thought that it may be of benefit to others so please read this as it could be helpful to you. When I was struggling with creditors' debts, I went to the Salvation Army for help. They have a free financial counselling service called Moneycare. Talking to someone not directly involved was really helpful, as all I could see were the debts and I felt I was going round in circles. Don't ignore your creditors, keep them in the loop of your situation and try to come to some arrangement. I arranged with one organisation to pay off debt by one payment a month over a 12 month period. I also sold some items I no longer used on an auction site - it made me a quick $100 and was a payment for one of the numerous bills. All in all, I am finally coming out of the red into the black!

That was a good email and a nice story as well.
Sometimes when we are really in need of advice it really helps to asked to some person we don't personally knew for we are not afraid to tell anything and everything because we knew they barely knew us.
Debts are debts and no matter how we avoid it, the thought of it haunts us so it is better to arrange it and face it bravely in able to have peace of mind.

Hi Maribell, yes you are right about whichever way we go we have to pay our debts it was that I was very lucky with the Salvation helping me the way they did and whenever I see them and they need donation I always give to them now for being there when I needed their help, so that they can help someone else who needs them.

Good for you Kathy. I didn't know the salvation army did this but I think it's great. It is very difficult to live life in debt but I think most of us do. Set up a budget for yourself. You can find online ones you can use. Then you will find more dicipline to stick to it and you should end
up with more money. It really makes you think.

I never would have thought of the Salvation Army. We only see them at Christmas on the street corners. Otherwise, they just seem to vanish.
The times that I had problems paying the bills, I would either call or write to the creditor explaining things and asking for a payment schedule. They are usually quite helpful.

I didn't know the Salvation Army offered this service. A few years back I was in a really bad spot and someone sent me there for help with my utility bill. They paid the whole month for me. I was so blessed and releived. They are a great organization.
