He started about four years ago starting a tradition is what I told him. That his children will do this with their children. They think that it is really neat. When each child has their birthday in the evening he takes them out to eat. Just him and the child. During the afternoon he and his child goes around to the different stores and his child gets to look around and pick his own gift. He looks at them and tells them what they are allowed to spend. While he is doing this his other two children and mom are at home decorating up the house and making the birthday cake. The kids absolutely love it. When dads birthday rolled around one of the kids went with him and they did the same thing for dad. I think that is the neatest thing and all them look forward to this day. How do you celebrate your child's birthday? I think it will be interesting to see how different people from all over celebrate kids birthdays.

That is really cute. Something they will remember. With my girls I make them their birthday pancakes. When they wake up the pancakes are done. The pancakes are dolled up with strawberries and whip cream. To top it off I put candles on them so they can blow them out. In the evening the birthday girl gets to pick any place they like to eat or if they like eat at home.

It really is cool. What we do normally is, go to a orphanage and distribute dry-rations, toys, etc. We take a separate cake to them. At home we dont have a party as such. But only a family-get-to-gether with a cake of his/her choice. We take a photograph of the kid with the cake also.

I think that it is beautiful that you think about the kids in orphanages. Those kids don't have a lot of things like that done for them. I think that you are special people to give to those kids like that. The fact that your child celebrates their birthday like that says a whole lot for them. They have big hearts.

My children are grown & they're lucky to get a card. HAHAHA! But Grandpa Bob takes his grandons usually to Chuck E. Cheese for their party. We all put on silly hats, sing along with the animatronic band the stuff our faces full of pizza and cake then we spend a fortune playing games so the grandkids can get a 30 cent toy. Total cost: $125. The experience:PRICELESS.
Happy postings from Grandpa Bob

I think that is neat. Even us grandparents can get in on the fun. I love to clown around with my grandkids. They call me crazy granny. I wear it with a badge of honor. They come over to our house either the day before or the day after their birthday and they never know what granny is going to come up with for their birthday. One year as he and the girls were coming out of the house so we could go to McDonalds for his birthday I got him with a water balloon. He just looked at me and the chase was on. After we were all through we changed and went on to McDonalds. Grandkids are special.

What impresses me is the kids make dad do the same thing for his birthday. It is really cute what they tell him. One of the kids will go with dad and they do the going out to eat and he just has to get himself a gift or who ever is with him gets on his case. While everyone that is home is fixing the cake and decorating the house.

my daughter is 3 and every year on her birthday since she turned 1 i have taken her to park safari. she loves animals and this park has a drive through area where you feed the animals from the car and then a walk through area like a zoo . they also have a water park and fair rides and games and a huge playground. we spend the entire game spending family time together and she loves it. she's allready asking when her birthday is and when we're going back. after the park we get home in the evening, we have some cake and get ready for bed.

it is not often that dads take this much interest in this sort of thing so i guess it is a good thing. i suppose if his wife is happy with this arrangement then why not if it suits them.

His wife is right in the middle of it. They do the same thing for each parents birthday and the kids love being the one to help dad celebrate his birthday as do they with mom. Those are memories that they will carry all of their lives and remember how special their birthdays were.

My daughter's birthday is January 5 and my son's birthday is December 27. We usually celebrate their birthdays together now that they are both in their twenties. When they were younger we had separate parties for them. Now we go out to eat with both of them during Christmas vacations because they are both always home at Christmas. My wife and I celebrate our birthdays together since our birthdays are only 2 days apart and we were born in the same year!

What a great idea. I've always gone shopping for my children's gifts and pray they will like what I get - I do my best to find out what they want but there have been times they were a little disappointed. The "birthday" person gets to pick what we have for dinner or where we go to eat if we can do that, they don't have to do any work that day, and get their favorite cake. We are now on the forth generation doing this - my grandparents did it for my mom and her brothers. I like the idea of taking them shopping and making it a special "trip" to the store.

It is hard to figure out what a child wants and the older they get the harder it is. The way my son looks at it is that is a extra special day for each one of his kids. They just adore the way he does their birthdays. When the kids talk about it they refer to it as their special time with dad/mom which ever one of them goes on the excursion. I had never heard of anyone doing this and I think it is pretty neat. Your kids appreciate the way you do their birthday. The fact that they don't have to worry about doing any work that day marks it as a special day. I am a person who believes in celebrating birthdays. No matter how it is done. That is the day God put a person on this earth and it is a day for celebrating.
