Have you all heard about this approval for genetically modified rice to be made with human genes. It always seems like the third world are the guinea pigs for this sort of food which claims to be a cure all for all of the third world's food problems. Would you eat this rice yourself?
Personally I would like to see the long term effects of eating GM food and as I don't think such studies are possible or conclusive, I would prefer not to have them in the food chain.
There IS enough food in the world - but poverty is the main reason people go hungry and suffer from malnutrition in third world countries.
I am interested in your opinion on this.

that's how things like mad cow start.
feeding a species it's own genetic material.even introduced material i wouldn't trust.

Hi scarlet woman - I tend to agree with you - there are some things that shouldn't be mucked around with -and our food sources are one of them.

exactly.they need to lock down what can and can't be introduced pronto, before they create god knows what by accident.

Actually there is enough food in the world to go around but the people in Africa you are referring to do not have enough money to buy it.
Wow - it seems you have no problem eating GM food. Okay.

Wow! I found the info on it.
Here is a link that told me more about it:

So it is true, but seems far less freakish now that I have read about it. They're calling it the 'medicine rice' because it is to be used for children with diarrhoea, which I just found out is a major killer of children in the third world. It sounds like a way to get the consentrated protiens needed.

I have never heard of human genes in genetically modified rice. Now you got me wanting to go in search of this information. It sounds truly freakish. And why human genes? Very strange indeed. I have heard of and eaten GM food before, but none with human genes in it. At least none that I'm aware of. I hope I don't grow an extra limb.
