I need to buy a baby gift for a little girl who is chinese and her parents cannot read english so anything with words on it does not make sense. I know red is a lucky colour and this is their first child. Red is hard to find in girls clothing... Nothing jumps out at me when I go out to look in the stores. I have never had so much trouble buying for a baby. I hope someone can help me out here. She was 7lbs when she was born about two weeks ago.

Why not get them a red blanket for the baby, or if you know how to crochet, knit or sew why not make a red blanket for the baby. That way you can make it the way you ant it to be and it is also a gift from the heart and the hand. It may mean more to them because you took the time to make it your self. That is what I am doing for a dear friend of mine. I am crocheying a blanket for the baby in the colors the parents chose. Hope this helps.

Easy baby blanket...Buy a yard of red fleece.....Cut slits about 6inches long. every inch around the entire piece of fabric, then tie each strip into a single knot, wash to help it to relax, and you have a nice soft blanket, (and baby's love to play, chew, and pull on all the strips) and it's in the exact color or pattern you need. no sewing, and soo easy. I'll then buy a package of diapers and baby wipes, use the blanket as the wrapping, just pull the blanket up and tie some ribbon around it with either a baby rattle or baby toy. This is always a big hit.......(photo album, and a frame..can also be nice gifts)

Thank you Rose this is a wonderful idea and I will keep it in mind for the future as my mom gave a blanket and I did not want to give the same thing...I did find some pretty red shoes and a nice summer outfit for the baby with a frilly white bonnet to wear this summer!

I'd try to buy an outfit or something that is real cute. It doesn't have to be red. Like the other people have said, I'd try to buy like maybe a 6-9 month outfit or something. You could also buy baby toys and teething rings and stuff like that if you wanted to.

I've actually thought of little stuffed animals and teethers or rattles, etc. It did cross my mind. I just want them to know that I wish the best for their little one and I know red is important to them. I do have a red bag to put the gift in with red tissue so maybe it won't really matter what I buy. I wanted to buy clothes because I remember when my son was little and how much I appreciated theclothing because it is expensive and they go through so much clothing and grow so quickly! :) Thanks for your advice!:) I hope I can decide on a gift to buy soon. All I have is the bag so far! LOL

Best bet, but something pink ands frilly in size 6 months. That way, they can wear it on her all summer, and since they are new parents, frills are always in for girls.

I'd rather red and frilly if I could find it! I don't want them to think that I am not wishing everything good for their little one...Because of course I do want all the best for her!:) However I did find a large red gift bag and red tissue to put the gift in so maybe the pink would be appreciated commming out of the red bag. Thank you for your suggestion it has given me something to think about!:)

This sounds like a wonderful Idea that I never really thought of! I might have got a nice red blanket but my mom is getting one of those for the baby so I need to give something different. I had not thought of a sling! Thanks, I will keep my eye open for one when I go back out to look again for this gift! :)

outfits are always a good choice.. and id aim for the larger more like 6month age. another could be toys. my first vote is for outfits though. probably something with a recognisable logo like oshkosh, baby nike or just plain.

why buying clothes? you know what i alway buy for the little ones? special baby spoon, fork and knive! it's a set in a nice box and you can let the juwelstore put her name on it!(but that's what they sell in the Netherlands) it's special, and most of the times they get already so many clothes! or you can buy a moneysaver(i don't know the right word) they sell them here in a babyduck with a pink scarf! or you do something special with the birth anouncement here you can put it on a candle(a special treatment at the store)

What I usually do for most baby showers is buy a laundry basket usually a wicker one, and fill it with things that the baby will need for the first year. That way you dont have to worry about making sure it's the right color or size. I put shampoos, lotions, wipes, diapers, pacifiers, nipple brushes, etc. I like to get creative with it. Good Luck!

Excellent Ideas! Thank you so much! :) I just wanted to have something red so that they understood that I wished their new little one all the best of luck and health. I did find some pretty little red shoes and a stuffed animal with a red ribbon around the neck! :) Then I purchased a pretty little outfit and put it in a red bag with red tissue. They were very pleased!! :)
