for those parents who are looking for something your toddler kiddos do to make them busy, here is an activity they will surely love.
you know how they love to color? we are going to make JUMBO CRAYONS.
In order to make big marks, toddlers need big crayons.Chubby crayons are the best for toddlers, and you can make your own by melting old crayons in a muffin tin. to begin, remove the wrappers from old broken crayons and sort the crayons by color. chop them into 1/4 inch chunks. line a muffin tin with foil liners and fill each lined cup with crayon pieces of the same color. heat the tin in a 250 degree F oven to cool and then peel off thew foil liners.
you can also melt crayons on a stovetop or in an electric frying pan. pour about an inch of water into a skillet or electric frying pan. set the muffin tin in the water and heat the pan over medium heat until the crayons melt. make sure that there is always water in the pan-crayons can be FLAMMABLE.
another idea would be taping three or four crayons together. choose crayons that are the same length and wrap rubber bands around them to make one big chunky crayon. your children will love draweing rainbow colored lines.
post any ideas here or if you tried it.if you have similar activities, don't hesitaqte to share it.

I used to make these muffin crayons but the kids didn't like them. I have no idea why. I peel my broken, leftover crayons and sort them by color. Then I chop them up in my blender and pour them into sandwich baggies. When I have enough crayon shavings I let the children sprinkle them on waxed paper, cover with another sheet of waxed paper and press with a hot iron to melt. It makes a wonderful suncatcher. I have also heard (But never tried) that if you place a piece of tinfoil on a hotplate (set at the lowest setting)and place a piece of paper on the foil, when you color the paper the crayons melt and blend together. It is kind of like a oil crayon effect. Obviously you would only want to let older children try this and I would recommend having them wear a long sleeved shirt. You have some great ideas! Keep them coming.
