I've read in many discussions that India has never received any oscar award...its true if a single film is condidered. But,"Satyajit Ray" has won an Oscar for lifetime achievement in films. In 1992, Satyajit Ray was honoured with an Oscar for Lifetime Achievement. He received the award from his sickbed in Calcutta, through a special live satellite-television event. The award was followed by the Indian Government's recognition in the form of the Bharat Ratna, the ultimate honour for any Indian.

Yours Post is faulty as a country is never nominated for Oscars. So India winning it doesnt matter at all. You should have said Indian instead of India. Satyajit Ray won it as a Life Time Achievement Award. Late Ismael Merchant as well Steven Spielberg lobied hard to get him this award. His movies never was send to Oscars by the Govt. of India for the Foreign movies categories as then governments of India(congress goverment was critical of his work as it shows poverty and darkness in social structure in India , which was true also). But Satyajit Ray was not the first Indian to get that award, the first Indian to win Oscar was Ms Bhanu Athaiya, she won for the film Gandhi in the category of Best Costume Design.

Hey really??? Thanks for that peace of information Shilpa! I confess, I never knew it really! Satyajit Ray was no doubt a great director, he was a multicoloured personality and also writer, infact a futuristic writer. I really loves some of his work; In the era of 1950 he wonderfully predicted the life in 2050. I was amazed by it! But I never knew any such that he got a Life Time Achivement Award of Oscar! ! ! Can you give me any source of this info on net? Please And thnx again!
