I am a new user in mylot. so far i have made Less than 50 discussions, out of which i have respond around 10 or more discussion of others. but i have a feeling that i have not got any of the best response so far yet..
Any how, i don't think that this will get affect my earnings due to this, and also if my response shall be marked as best one, i don't think that i may be get more earnings through that best response.
I think this may be the additional recognition given my the mylot to their members.

Oh, if that's the case, then what's its use for? If it doesn't affect the earnings, hope it does with the ratings. I hope mylot could be able to show and explain to us their earning system is. It's not that enough that you will know that you will earn SOMETHING from the discussions and responses right? Hope they can explain to us that "something"

Let me share my point of view.
Indeed, getting a Best response adds a little amount to your earnings as well as increases your star rating, so it's better to focus on giving quality responses on discussions.
However, your star rating does not affect your earnings, as stated by myLot staff.

I think best response adds in earnings, but I got no reward for getting one.... really wonder why I still think that way!!! And yes, it DOES help you in boosting your reputation, and star as the case may be.
All that I saw and experienced... may differ in other's case. Hope to be of your help:)
