Do you have rabbits in your garden?

I live in town, but we have rabbits (wild ones) around sometimes. I planted collards and they kept eating them down so we didn't get to harvest any at all. Do you have rabbits that cause problems in the garden, and if so, how do you deal with it? I don't want to kill them. I'm not sure I could, here in town, anyway and I don't care for traps. I just want to keep them out of the garden.

The rabbit proof fence is your only option other than trapping and relocating them or out right poison. Them bunnies sure play havoc in a vegtable garden. I don't like hurting them either reloacting them is an option that I have used but more just move back in so its a merry go round. But a kind friend of mine a few years back showed me how to stake out a garden and simple cheap screening and staples does the trick :)) Good luck with your garden and the critters!!

Do you mean a fence made with screening? How high did you make it?

yes exactly...only about 2 1'2 to 3 feet high..Rabbits really will not jump over that.. Simple vegetable stakes will work spead them out about every 2 feet. The moth balls are a good idea but I was always afraid that it would get into the soil and hurt my vegetable and maybe not be so good to eat for us humans. But they are great around folige and roses that type of thing.

I don't have rabbits in my garden because I have big dogs... However, I am secretary of a rabbit rescue, so I know a thing or two about them! Best non-harmful way to keep rabbits out of your garden is just to put out some moth balls. Rabbits hate the smell and won't come near them, but you'll never notice it out in the open!

I didn't know that about moth balls, thanks! I might give it a try.

I live in MN & have the rabbits all over. I use a rabbit proof fence. They're great & easy also. I have a Beagle so that really helps during the days. Since getting the dog a coule years ago I have noticed the rabbits now prefer the front yard under my patio. So this year I'm going without the fence to see if that helps. Thanks for this discussion also.

My dad has gardens planted everywhere here. I love garden food. We do have rabbits and deer that is hard to keep out of the gardens. Also dogs and cats that tramble over areas where my dad can't put a fence. The deers still get in the fanced parts and eat the plants. But I love it where we live.

No, we don't. I wish we did, actually, because I'd be hppy to sacrifice some of my greens to them. Since I have 2 large dogs that chase anything that moves, we don't get hedgehogs, bunnies, or stray cats entering our garden.

We have a rabbit who comes each day to eat the clover in our yard--he is the cutest thing. And when I was a little girl I had a pet rabbit that for some reason was not kept in the cage. It kept sneaking over to our neighbors garden for dinner. My dad gave my rabbit away and I still have NOT forgotten it. Good luck with your fence or the mothballs idea.
