Setting the Table for Meals

Setting a Nice Table - Warm and Inviting

How often do you go all out when setting the table for a meal? I mean candles, napkins, centerpiece. I enjoy setting a nice table for most any meal. Now, I don't do it everyday, but love to make the table look inviting. Candles in the evening give the table a warm glow. A nice tablecloth, placemats and folded napkins give the table a touch of flair. Our table is too small for a centerpiece. The only time I have a centerpiece is if we are having a buffet style dinner. Putting a small vase of flowers or a basket with an arrangement of flowers or ornaments makes the dining experience even more inviting.

I only ever dress up the table for specail occasions or when I have the whole family together. Most of the time there is only hubby and myself and as he works irregular hours we never dine together except at weekends. Even when my dining table is not is use, I aways like it to look nice, so I usually have a flower arrangement as a centrepiece or a bowl with floating candles.

I love to fix up the table and buffet whenever we have a get together with family and/or friends. It just makes the occasion seem more special.

Only on holidays and special occasions. My husband and I work different shifts, so we have a hard time just getting the family together for a meal.

I don't go all out on setting the table very often at all. Only when it's a special occasion, but our table is always used to eat at. We always set it with our placemats and all. The placemats we have are ones that kids make. Every season, I get a pic of them outside doing something--like playing in the leaves--and then I let them set it on construction paper and draw around it. Then, I go and laminate them. :) Anyhow, we have more of a kid table. LOL

We seem to do this a little more now that the children are grown. At least now we have a chance for a romantic meal. I remember having pizza or Chinese take out and candle light because 5 little boys wanted to "eat fancy" lol.

I live alone but I have a lovely dining table in my living room which I sit at for my evening meal. I love all the niceties so their is always a lace cloth and flowers on it. I use a placemat and set the table and if I'm having champagne to celebrate, I light candles as well. A celebration can be for no reason at all. LOL Usually, I watch TV (it's in the next room but the TV and my chair are strategically placed) but if I have guests there is music in the background.

I totally agree with you on this one MsTickle. You can have a nice table anytime. Today is Monday. Why not today? : )

I like setting a nice table for dinner as my boyfriend and I rarely have any other meal together. On the weekends, we have breakfast together. He cooks on the weekends, and I cook during the week. He will clear the table during the week, but I still do the majority of the cleaning. Since I am not working, it makes sense, and I certainly don't expect him to do it. But it is nice when he makes breakfast and sets the table. What a nice discussion!

I would love the table to be nicely setup for a meal if I am not the one doing it :P At home, we do not practice table setting. Simply because all the family members do not dine at the sasme time. The only time the family dine together was during the annual reunion dinner. There will be a feast and our dining table is simply not big enough for posh setting, and with kids around, it is sort of tricky. The dining table has a vase of flowers at all times though. It will be relocated to make way for plates of food. Thanks for the idea. I shall keep it in mind until I have a big big house and a maid.

Only on Holidays do I set the whole table and even then I don't have a centerpiece because with all of the food I prepare, there isn't enough room. When my hubby buys me flowers for no special occassion, I will leave them on the table and work around them.

Mainly on holidays or special occasions. We used to have the sit down meal with the cloth napkins the whole thing when the kids were younger. I always thought it was important to have that family time. But as the kids have gotten older they are not home half the time a dinner my husbands work hours changed. so the sit down meal just doesn't happen much anymore. I miss it but what can you do. We have dinner every weekend with my parents but they do live in the in-law apt in my house lol. but is usually grab you plate and sit where ever. But Easter is coming i will get the formal dinner then whooooooooo hooooooooo.

I haven't done that in a long time. I actually can't tell you the last time I did that. If I do go all out and set the table like that then it's usually only for holidays or special occasions.

how nice finding close souls!!!! I mean I love preparing the table and making it nice before the meal....during holydays time (Christmas and Easter time), I am supposed to be setting a nice table for our family as soon as I arrive at my parents' home..we love being together for holidays...and I am in charge of this "duty".. I cannot consider it a duty but a big pleasure ...I like matching colours...and I choose candles, napkins, placemats and decorations and even plates and forks and knives and spoons...I enjoy doing this very much...sometimes I do it even for my eyes only...I put on the table my favourite "table-dress", I choose my favourite smelled candles and I choose beautiful plates and placemats...it is a way to take good care of myself!!!

That is not something that I do very often. The only time I do it, is when there is a special occassion, or special event that might be happening. Usually holidays are the best time to do things like that. Anniversary's are another time that I do it. I never do it for no reason because I don't see the point in going through all theh hassle. Everybody has their own way of doing things. My mother is a person who sets a beautiful table all the time.
