Agree on killing the trees.
However papers are useful, think about going to work and having nothing to do in the process... what do you do? You can read a newspaper... and the examples may go on...
Most of the papers this day became digital, being readable on the internet and becoming more than just a newspaper, adding interaction in the relation newspaper - reader, like a forum, where you can post your opinion or a video section, etc

I live in a small town and we do not get featured on the news unless it is a very big story.
I like to know what is going on local and I can not get it from the TV news. I have to read the paper to know the local events and happening. I also recycle our papers so as not to kill so many trees.

news papers, telivision, online new sites..each of these things r in their own way good. i think television these days don't provide the full story, they prone to focus more on those sides of the news which r more spicy and this way many times they move away from the real subject and don't give full facts about it. i think reading a news paper gives less stress to ur eyes then watching tv. and who really contains most of the local news and notices a news paper or a news channel? also in my opinion reading news paper is more relaxing then to watch tv and newspaper gives more indepth news on a topic!:)
as far as i know most of the leading newspapers in the world have started to use recycled paper so there's not much problem of killing the trees today.
