Bankruptcy????

I realize this is a personal question, but I thought I would ask. Has anyone gone bankrupt before? What are the problems it causes? We are having major financial problems and this has crossed our minds, but there is such a stigma attached to it and I hate to ruin our credit for 7 years. Our credit is already screwed up, but this would make it worse wouldn't it? Also, I feel so bad just filing bankruptcy and not paying the bills that we owe. I don't want to be thought of as a person who ran up a lot of credit and then just took the "easy way out". What are your thoughts on bankruptcy? What are the pros and cons? I don't know much about it and I am sure if I contact a bankruptcy lawyer, they won't be totally honest about the after effects.

Check into filing a Chapter 13 - you still pay all your creditors but the court sets you a monthly payment and then the court disburses the money to the creditors. It is a better way to go if you still want to meet your financial obligations because the companies still get paid - they just don't get the exorbitant interest rates they charge those who fall behind. Good luck - financial problems are no fun. I hope things work out for you.

You hope to be careful because for some jobs, employers required a credit check. This could be very bad for you! Don't fill for bankrupty. I think of it myself, for my student loan, but here in Canada, even if we call for bankrupty, it's not a complete bankrupty if I can say, I will still need to pay my student loans... Anyway, before doing anything you could regret, see what you can do in your living to reduce your bills. Do whatever you need to do. Sell your car, sell your house and live on what you can afford. If you have a big house, sale it and buy a smaller one, etc.. The idea is to "downsizing". Also, have your credit check before calling for bankrupty. Don't contact a lawyer, the only thing they want is to have you as client. Be careful, good luck, and please, don't go for a bankrupty.

We were never that rich and we always are short of money and even food. We don't even have enough to pay for the water and electric bill..but I guess I strive harder and went head on to fulfill my dreams...If you stop trying to get something you want, you wont get it..I tried and tried and tried..I have a better job now and I am slowly paying off my debts..Good luck to you..:)

Its not exactly an easy way out. I watched my parents go through not one but TWO of them! Too many credit cards, too little money. Our family has ALWAYS had little money. Its pretty much always been enough to skid on by but not enough to always get the things we needed or at least wanted. Its how it goes. With a one parent income our whole lives, at times we were leaning on credit cards not on other income. Hope you dont have to go through one! They do NOT look fun! :((
