I think that it is very important for children to have a high self-esteem and confidence. I am searching for ways to strengthen my children's level of self-esteem and confidence. For ex. My 5 year old son is very outgoing and has a great personality, but he does not show eye contact when he talks to certain people. How can I help him develop eye contact?

Have him talk to himself in the mirror. Sounds funny...but it is a good exercise.
If you give him a topic to talk about in the mirror, he will learn to be comfortable with looking at himself in the eyes and will gain confidence in how he is seen by others when he looks them in the eyes.

I am going to try that and see if it works with him. I've never heard of that exercise but it sounds like a good idea. Thanks
Now if I can get my 18 mth old not to be shy. She is only shy when she's around huge crowds of people that she does not know, she clings on to me when she feels uncomfortable. I wonder is it because she is not in daycare.

When my son first came to live with me, he had no self confidence at all and he was about to start high school.
The best thing that ever happened to him was that he became involved with team sports.
Nothing will instill confidence in a young person faster than being part of a team.
you can start your son playing soccer at a very young age I believe. I used to coach 5-7 year olds at soccer and it was just great.
It may not be the same where you live, but it is worth looking into. There are lots of sports out there that he can become involved in. Even if he may have to wait a year or two.
My son started in grade 10 and it changed him completely. Your son has a huge head start over him.
My son went from a kid with no confidence to a star on the senior football team a few years later and never looked back.
