Have you Ever Been to a Candy Store where you Pay Based on the Weight??

Fuzzy Peach - One of my favorite things to load up on at a candystore, are the fuzzy peaches.

I remember how much of an eyeopener it was for me, the first time I went into a candy store and filled up my little bag to be weighed. I had guessed that it might come out to $10 or so but actually ended up being more like $30..(I was so embarrassed putting some back). Some of my favorite things in the bag included: chocolate money, fuzzy peaches and M&Ms. Have you ever been to a candy store? Where was it?What are your favorite treats from there? What's the most you've spent in one visit?

Oh my goodness. I hate going to those places! You put 2 scoops of gummy worms, get to the register and it's like $8.00!!? I can't go in that store and spend less than $20.00. And of course if I have my husband or kids with me it's even worse. they think they have to have every thing in the store. I have to admit that the gummy worms sure do taste better from there. Why is that?

yes, several times. There are a few chocolate candy stores around here that do this and a couple of grocery store candy sections. There also used to be a store called Mr. Bulky that had bulk candies that you bought by weight. I like the chocolate the best but I'm not sure the most I've spent...probably around $20.

I forget the name of the store right now, but they have those in malls here in the United States.. something like the Candy Factory. (Dang, I can't remember the name!) I think my husband and I have spent $5-6 at a time, but not because we fill up the bags. We usually just get a few of each thing that really appeals to us. And typically they're the bigger items. LOL I Love chocolate covered things.. chocolate covered peanut butter cups were one of the last things I bought from one of those places. MMMMMM.

I haven't been to a candy store specifically but there's the bulk area of the supermarket which is pretty much the same sort of idea. I remember that there was one time someone bought me a bag of mini eggs and they were almost $9.00 for about half a kilogram of those candies. I've at the same time seen chocolate made by that company Lindor for almost $8.00 ($2.50/lb) and I could not believe how much it cost. It was like all of a sudden chocolate became this luxurious item that for some reason became very expensive because it became extremely rare. Some of my favorite candies are m&m's, cadbury mini eggs, glosette peanuts and raisins and smarties. I really enjoy eating this sort of stuff when I feel nibbly or I just want something to snack on. Sometimes I like fruit but every once and a while I get a craving for chocolate and getting some from the bulk area of that supermarket is usually the best bet for the prices I've paid. I know that when time my other half purchased some bulk glosette peanuts for me one time because he had inventory to do at work. And knew I would have wanted something to snack on.. And bought me this candy in bulk & it was terrible because.. He brought it home & he ended up getting ripped off in my opinion. He got charged an arm & a leg for a bunch of bulk candy that just wasn't worth it in my opinion.. Because there wasn't half as much as there should have been for the price he ended up paying.. I find buying bulk to be so much more expensive sometimes when it comes to candy.. Other times I find it can be a good deal.. But I don't find all to many good deals when it comes to bulk candy a large majority of the time for some reason.. Since it's getting close to easter my favorite easter chocolate is coming out in the bulk section. I can't wait until they put the cadbury mini eggs in the bulk bins again. I just hope they aren't dried out or too old. I really dislike old chocolate because it tastes disgusting. It's almost like certain ingredients have decided to somehow become more noticeable in the flavor. I always find old chocolate has a salty taste to it. Sometimes when my other half & me have bought candy in bulk that it has been sitting there forever.. And has not been replaced with fresh candy.. And it gets to the point where the candy just tastes rather disgusting.. Especially when you buy glosette peanuts & the peanuts on the inside taste very old.. I know this has happened to me before.. Sometimes experiences such as this makes you get really turned off from buying candy bulk all over again quite honestly.. When I think back to how much money I used to spend on chocolate it's usually around $10.00 - $20.00. Actually I think that is the most money I have ever spent on chocolate at one time. It was all on those mini eggs and I remember that was a pretty large bag I ended up getting for that price. They lasted a pretty long time as well. In conclusion, I find that buying chocolate or candies in general from the bulk section of the supermarket or a candy store is probably the best way to buy it sometimes. Other times you truly have to make sure you are getting quite a big bag of chocolate to be getting your moneys worth in my opinion.. Sometimes I have found that they sometimes will have the best price on candies and especially if you're buying bulk candies in my opinion sometimes. Other times you have to be careful what you decide to buy as buying bulk candy can get rather expensive after a while though to sometimes.. I guess you have to be cautious with whatever you buy in this day & age! . . Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

I hardly ever go to a candy store anymore. In fact I haven't been to one in years. The candy is overly expensive, and well, I have 2 kids, and I would not get out of there ever! There was an old fashioned mercantile in the town I grew up in Washington, IL. It was a treat to go in thre and get a handful of this and that. And soda floats were always good too! But in all reality, I realize now what a rip-off candy stores are-LOL. So I will stick to buying candy and what not from the grocery store.

We still have some "bulk food" areas in our grocery stores and I think they've done away with a lot of the serve yourself and gone to prepackaged versions.

My grocery store has the bulk candy section where the candy is bagged and then weighed. There is also a candy store at the Prime Outlet store close by that has the weighed candy and it is SO expensive but so yummy. I tend not to spend a lot at the candy stores because my kids are in school and have candy fundraisers all the time...lol

I have places like that! So what I do is put stuff in my bag and start eating it while I get more lol. I don't eat a lot just some. But they seriously overcharge...it's horrible.

Whenever I go to cebu or manila and then go to malls.. My first stop would be the candy corner! I really love their gummy candies.. my favorite is the sour tapes! The red one.. =p mmmmmmm. I agree it's really expensive like one time it reached 500 pesos.. and then the most was 1000 pesos. I enjoyed eating it especially that I'm not the one paying for it.

That IS embarrassing. I've been there once myself. A few years ago, I went into a "Jelly Belly" type store in a local mall and put a whole bunch of stuff in my bag...sour patch kids, swedish fish, candy corns, jelly bellies, gummie bears, etc. I was expecting it to total a max of $15. Imagine my surprise and horror when it came to $32 dollars. Needless to say, I was back at the bins, but this time, I wasn't putting stuff in my bag- I was taking stuff out...lots of it lol.

yeah, when i was in college i always visit some malls and i happen to see one of this cart selling candy and the prize is based on its weight. because im so addict to chocolates and candies i buy and fill my plastic bag only to know that it will casue me so much. it has a total of 4usd which here in the philippines is 200pesos and for a candy that is too much to pay. so i have to bring some of the candy. actually that is really embarrasing.

When I was growing up that was the only way to buy candies (sweeties as they were called in Scotland) except for special occasions you could buy a fancy box of chocolates.

The best candy store I have ever been to is Freak Lunchbox in Halifax, Nova Scotia. They have all different candies and some really old candies, not that they are stale, they are just older brands not usually sold in other stores. They import candy, which is expensive, but their prices are quite reasonable. try googling freak lunchbox halifax and see the different things that you get. Alot of feedback on their store and service :)

THe most I have spent was about $20.00 in The Sweet Factory. Those candy stores rip you off in a really big way, though. If you just buy your candy from tthe regular ol' grocery store, you'll save a lot of money. Most of the candy is the same, too.
