The answer to your question is yes and no. The tuning of the banjo makes it very easy to play. You can literally use 1 finger on your left hand. However the right hand is a different story.
It requires right and left hand coordination as well as hours of practice. I just got one for my birthday and it is a little harder than I thought it would be.

Hmmm... While I observe my father tweaking with his banjo, I have to agree with you. It's a yes or no indeed. Left and right hand coordination; and CONCENTRATION.
