I love and respect my parents too much that I just couldn't afford to call them by their first names. I even call the elderly folks in the neighborhood as "ate" (used to address to your elder sister) or "kuya" (used to address to your elder brother) though I know we aren't biologically related. I should say, my parents just brought me up with these lovely values and I wanted my future kids to have them as well.

Never did I and never will I try calling my parents by their first names. I love my parents and regard them with high respect and for me calling them by their first names is simply disrespectful. I wouldn't want my future kids to call me by my first name either. I guess hearing their children call them "mom" or "dad" in a sweet, lovely voice is the sweetest thing they'd love hearing over and over again.

I never call my mum or dad by their first name, it doesn't sound right nor is it appropriate. It's far too informal and we are a very close family so I will always refer to them as mum and dad. I would feel very uncomfortable calling them by their names, I suppose it's what you get used to and also the culture you were brought up in.

We are not that liberal in Singapore. So... we don't call parents by their first names - and we wouldn't want our children to call us by our first names either. So it would be the many different expressions of daddy and mummy dear. ;-)

I always call my parents mom and dad, I call them by their first name only as a joke sometimes. It's the same with all my friends, they all call them mom and dad.Except one girl, she calls her stepdad by his first name, but that's totally different.

I've always called my parents mother and father or mama and papa. For them, it will be grossly disrespectful for a child to call his parents by their first names. Now, my kids call me mom or mommy or mama. Whatever they please. Never will I have them call me by my firstname nor nickname, I have enough people around who call me that way and the 3 of them are all I have to address me dearly as 'mom'.
