There are many plants that grow well indoors. If you can get to a nursery that sells indoor plants you will find some trees that will grow in pots and are excellent for bonsai. Depending on where you live will depend on how succesful you are in bonsai because it is better to obtain trees that grow in your area. Under groups in Yahoo you will find some groups to join that specialize in bonsai and you can get information on how to grow bonsai from them. Good Luck.

The best tip is to get a lot of books on the subject if you're really interested in it. Especially those written by people in your country who live and have the same climates as you. I worked in a bonsai nursery for a while and I can't tell you how many trees I saw die because people thought they could be treated like ordinary houseplants or could stay year round indoors.

I got interested in bonsai a while back an read extensively on the subject. I can't quote exactly from memory, but the basics are that it is not healthy for outdoor plants to live indoors. I don't know what is available in your region, but you generally want to collect plants that grow into a bush or shrub, preferably with small leaves. The basic steps are to use a very sharp pair of clippers or scissors and to only remove very little growth at each pruning. Use plastic coated wire, bent around young branches to fix them in a position you like and control the shape they grow in. As I say, the plants always do better outdoors. Placing them in those small dishes indoors is for display purposes only and the plants should be re-potted in proper size containers and placed outside after a couple of weeks. The methods of bonsai are tough on a plant. Being moved around so much and distorted and pruned is stressful, so the plants need plenty of extra care to recover. There are loads of sites on the internet to look over.

I also would love to know about making bonsai as I love to have beautiful plants inside the house. Sorry I have no tips and no idea how to but I am thankful that you started this thread maybe someone who knows will reply later. Most of my indoor plants are greeneries. Green leaves. I have few bamboo trees ( the small one)inside the house and the rest are plastic flowers.
