Some TV shows can really bore you to death!! If you heard a TV "blaring" from a neighbors home for a YEAR woud you not think something was wrong??Police called to a Long Island man's house discovered the mummified remains of the resident, dead for more than a year, sitting in front of a blaring television set. The 70-year-old Hampton Bays, New York, resident, identified as Vincenzo Ricardo, appeared to have died of natural causes. Police said on Saturday his body was discovered on Thursday when they went to the house to investigate a report of a burst water pipe."You could see his face. He still had hair on his head," Newsday quoted morgue assistant Jeff Bacchus as saying. The home's low humidity had preserved the body. (Watch for views inside the house and why no one ever bothered to check on him ) Officials could not explain why the electricity had not been turned off, considering Ricardo had not been heard from since December 2005. Neighbors said when they had not seen Ricardo, who was diabetic and had been blind for years, they assumed he was in the hospital or a long-term care facility. http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/02/17/death.television.reut/index.html Photo: TV

that was weird - i was thinking the same thing the police said - why didn't they shut off the electric??? Kind of sad if you think about it- to be that alone in the world.. no one checking on you at all. I just said a little prayer for him, may he rest in peace now.

My feelings exactly. It sounds rather odd to me, who was paying the electric bill?

now if that were me and i didn't pay my bill for a month they would have shut me off right away...lol. I thought about it and maybe the guy got SSI deposited in his account directly and they automatically took it out- instead of him writing checks since he was blind.

Well I do not understand how no one heard the TV and how no one even thought of checking. I mean no Bills will have been paid or anything. That is really a sad thing that no one has even missed the poor Man. This is really sad.

This just inspired a great business idea to me . A service that periodically checks on old people who live alone to see whether they are still alive or need to be accomodated with a grave or an incinerator ! No one should die alone ! I wouldn't blame anyone for not checking on me if I am lucky to reach that age ! I just do not like the idea of becoming a rotten smelly pile of meat ! So if I could pay someone to ensure that does not happen , I would be very happy !!

Crazy isnt it...My hsuband and I were talking about it when the story first hit the news a little while back...Its sad to think that ppl didnt know..mind you he was estranged from his family and his house was set back off the road I beleive but even so, you'd think the flippin mailperson would have noticed something was up and of course the whole electricity thing too is unusual..

Yes T.V.Programs are boring especially the serials which does'nt end and they just go on extending with boring episodes.I don't know why these serial makers wants to extend there serials.Sometimes I just laugh at the number of turning points that take place in a serial. But I like watching Comedy shows aand sports on T.V

You read of this every so often in the newspapers, it seems strange that nobody missed him for so long, neighbours, family, must have been someone? It also shows the quality of television sets that they can stay switched on for over a year and still be working.
