When is it time for the babysitter to go?

Do you think there is a maximum period of time or a "sign" that indicates it is time to change your babysitter? I would like to introduce the concept of "familiarity breeds contempt" to provide a backdrop for this discussion.

I think its time for your babysitter to go, when you get that hair-on-the-back-of-the-neck-standing-up-feeling from them. If you have an 'off' feeling or sixth sense your babysitter is not up to the job, even without any hard proof, let them go immediatly. It's always good to have 2 babysitters. That way if one is sick or just can't babysit you have a back up plan. Remember when you hire a babysitter you can ask for a criminal background check including a child abuse registry check. Remarkably few parents ever do this. If you ever see your babysitter harm your child, or believe they have harmed your child, never hesitate to contact the authoriites.

Thanks, Melda1. Yes, I think there also needs to be some sort of "chemistry" between you and the babysitter. Anything off is an additional stress point for me, and I would not want to go home to another stressful situation. On having 2 babysitters, unfortunately for me, the two are sisters. I think that made things complicated. Thanks for the input... cheers! :

Changing your babysitter a lot can cause confusion for your children. As long as your babysitter takes care of your children, and tends to their needs, there is no reason to change. KIds get along a lot better around somebody that they are familiar with.

Yes I agree with that. I have actually heard that many times before, and I think that it is a wise advice. Unfortunately, I also am so averse to people who start to tell me lies. I think maybe it is because she's quite young and is growing into maturity, and feels that she needs to spread her wings some more, have friends, etc. Again, unfortunately, I cannot afford to have any more complications in my already complicated life. maybe I am too selfish. thanks for the thought! :
