Vedas are four in number and they are Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda. Vedas have no authorship. They are believed to have come out from Brahma. Once two demons named Madhu and Kaitabha robbed the vedas and put them under the sea. Lord Vishnu had to take the avatara of Hayagriva to retrieve the vedas by killing those demons.
