Adisankara was born in kaladi in the state of Kerala in India in the 8th century A.D. He founded the Advaita Vedanta , which is one of the six systems of Indian Philosophy. He had written several books, most of them on advaita. Some of his well-known works are Viveka cudamani, Bhaja govindam, Atmabodha, brahmasutra bhasya etc.

The most important part of his contribution is the revival of the Vedic Religion from oblivion,gave it a New Direction, playing down the rituals. He had to establish the Vedic Religion against the spreading of Buddhism aided by State support and popular appeal, pushing the Vedic religion to the forests!
