Do You Stay On Site or Off Site at Disney World?

When you travel to Disney World, do you like to stay in one of the Disney owned resorts, or do you prefer staying at an off-site hotel? What do you consider when choosing your hotel? Do you have a favorite resort you like to stay at? Do you stay at a different place every time you visit?

We've done both, but I'd rather do off site and rent a car. That's not what my husband wants to do, but I like having the car! Seems like we'd have more options for meals after leaving the park. I do recommend ordering pizza to your hotel from Giordano's even on Disney property. For $20 you can get a deep dish Chicago style pizza (best there is) and easily feed your family! We did that a couple times and saved a lot of money. :)

i agree, i like having a car. our children are older, and we usually stay at a timeshare near disney. they are so nice that you really don't want to leave there! i also like the fact that you can make some meals instead of having to eat out all the time.

We usually stay on-site. When choosing a place to stay at we try to vary each time we go. We have stayed at the New Orleans one twice, we liked it, and the all stars resorts. We are working our way up to the Wilderness Lodge next.

We've stayed at Port Orleans twice as well, the Riverside one. I wish we could stay at Wilderness Lodge, but we have too many kids. It looks so beautiful, and is a pretty good deal for a deluxe resort. I hope you enjoy it!

There are so many options for lodging when traveling to Disney World. We have stayed at a different place everytime we've visited. The Port Orleans Riverside has to be one of the most family friendly places on-site. When you stay off-site it's nice to get a hotel that is a condo-style so that you can have all the amenities of home while you are away from home.

I would have to say, I would rather stay on-site. The special magic hours are great to spend some more time on your favorite rides with hardly no lines. Also the free transportation is awesome!! You can come and go as you please.

We just got back from our first trip to Disney World. We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge because the kids love animals and we thought they'd get a treat out of seeing them right outside the window. Not only did they love it, but the whole family did. The hotel was quiet, had tons of amenities (including a great pool), and had a great overall atmosphere. If we go back, I'd try somewhere different however. I'd definitely stay at a moderate or a deluxe resort, but I like to explore different options.

We love to stay onsite. Its easier with the Magical Express and the onsite bus service. You dont have to rent a car or drive around.

I always stay on-site. Having been there at least 25 times, I couldn't imagine not staying in a Disney World resort hotel. The benefits from staying on-site are worth every penny in my eyes. In fact, when you compare some of the prices of the off-site hotels, there isn't much difference, if any at all. When choosing the hotel we want to stay at, I of course look at prices of the hotel as well as the amenities. The Disney World resort hotels are so well themed, so you can't go wrong. It all depends on the personalities of the people that are involved. My favorite resort is the Polynesian, but we don't stay there. The price is just too high for us. I will stay there someday, just not right now. We have stayed at the All Star Music resort 4 times now and absolutely love it. It's our "home away from home" as we call it. We're used to it, and the theming is so much fun. Then again, our family is really into music also. As far as staying in a different resort each time, I'd love to do that and someday, we will. The next time we go, which will be at the end of this year, we are staying at Pop Century. I have heard so many good things about the hotel and I can't wait!

Well, I definitely PREFER staying ON disney property. Shuttles come often, great atmosphere, the extra hours and you can "check" your bags at the park and they'll send them to your hotel room! Also, you can book the dining option if staying at the resort, this is a great deal! However, when money is an issue (when is it not?) It can be cheaper staying off property. I haven't yet done this, but may have to if it afford us going to disney. I don't just mean the 10 or 20 bucks you save a night on hotel. That's not worth the difference. I found a deal where you can get 5 nights hotel AND (2) 4 day disney adult park hoppers for just $575! (of course, this is a timeshare preview, you have to take the tour, but that's a HUGE savings!) The tickets alone are worth over $500! I really would like to stay on disney property given all the perks, ESPECIALLY the atmosphere, I love the all-star/pop century resorts, they are really neat! However, that promotion is a savings of about $450 or more..could be the difference between affording to go and not.

i've only been to disney world once and we drove down from canada and we stayed in kissimee cause it was cheaper. we only payed $25 a night for the hotel and because we had our car we went to the grocery store to buy food instead of eating out. we were able to save a lot of money by doing this. they also had free shuttles from the hotel to the dinsey parks

I also prefer staying on site when you can afford it. Disney property might be a more expensive to stay on, but I found that the extras were really worth it. It was great to be able to stay extra hours in the park, make reservations for dinner from the hotel, ride the shuttles to and from the park, and the theming at the disney resorts is also pretty great. The customer service is also pretty exellent. However, my favorite thing about staying on site is that you can check your airline luggage at the resort. It was amazing. I checked out and then just brought my luggage to the airline desk and didn't have to see my bags again until I arrived at my home airport. I didn't have to wait on any long lines at the airport or worry about dragging things around. If I go back to Disney, I will without a doubt be staying at another Disney resort.

Staying onsite when you go to Disney World is the only way to vacation when your there. If you really compare prices the value resorts on-site are comparable to anything you can find off-site. It adds to the magic when you stay right in Disney World and are surrounded by everything Disney. For the short time of your vacation you get to leave "the real world" of stress and problems and step into Mickey's world of magic and happiness. And whatever your interest is there is usually a resort that can come close to meeting your needs. For example, if your really into the outdoors and camping you should check out Fort Wilderness where you can rent cabins or bring your own camper. Growing up every year we used to camp here and there is so many activities to do right at the campground (i.e. campfire sing-a-longs with characters, make your own pizza, hoop-de-doo revue) and the rustic surroundings are awesome. The best thing about staying onsite at Disney is that every park is only a bus, boat, or monarail ride away. Once you get there you don't have to get in your car again until you leave. I can't wait to go back again!

I stayed off site once on my first trip- never again! Just not worth it. My favorite resort is the Polynesian, but I stay at the Wilderness Lodge more often, because it is more affordable. I also love the Beach Club Villas and Animal Kingdom Lodge.

I used to always stay off site, but after staying on site several trips back we are always doing it. I could NEVER stay off site again...The ease and atmosphere of a WDW resort cannot be compared to. Our favorite resort is Caribbean Beach Resort but we are planning on Pop Century next trip..Eventually we'd love to have stayed at them all though.

Well I've done both and over all staying on site is much better. You do get advantages like the fact that on certain days one of the parks will be open earlier for you then they do for the public. Little tid bit I found out recently. Personally I loved staying at Fort Wilderness, their camp ground. They do have trailers there that you can rent, they are more like cabins, or you can use your own RV, Camper, or tent. It was great staying there. I have stayed in their cheaper hotels and it wasn't bad but you are so far out that the buses are often crowded.

Well, I have this Disney-obsessed friend that I turn to for all things Disney ;) and she recommended staying on-site, so that's what we're doing! There are so many neat Disney resorts, I'm hoping to visit there again soon and try a few of the different places. I can definitely see the advantages of staying on-site - just the Extra Magic Hours are enough to convince me!
