Do you ever participate in contests online?

I´m thinking of holding a contest to promote traffic to my website and I´m just wondering how many people actually participate in these. What prizes do you consider worth applying for?
Has anyone with a blog or website used this method to draw traffic to their site? I am very interested in hearing feedback on this idea.

I've never entered any contests online.
I'm just not a "contest" person.
Freebies, I'm all over, LOL.
But it's an interesting idea! I'd be interested to hear if having a contest on your website brought more visitors.
But how would you promote it?
