Schools and our children

Does your child ever ask for help with their homework? Have they ever told you that they don't understand something? Now days they make it a requirement for children to attend school, unless they are home schooled. I have to say that teachers have a hard job. They have to teach children everyday, all day. Due to some of the laws, they have to teach the children a certain amount of subjects in a given year. But the sad thing is that they can't take their time doing it. They only have so long to review a topic, and then they have to move on. Unfortunately, this means that many kids do not get to fully understand what they were just taught, and all of a sudden they are having to learn something else. The teachers do not have the time to work one on one with the children that are having problems. I understand that the parents can work with the children at home when doing homework, but sometimes teachers can explain things better, in a way that children can understand. Do you think that the schools should hire more help to cut back on class size? I think that they should. It's better than passing a child, and forcing them to go on so that they get even further behind. I have heard teachers say that they can't help their students because there are so many in their classes, and they don't have the time to help each child that is having problems. I think that with all the money that the schools make they could afford some extra help to help our children. What are your views on this?

Thank you! Finally someone gets it. I am a teacher and have been saying that some of my students are being left behind becouse I have to teach this much in a given year. I know that a lot of my students are bright and would be able to learn the material if I had time to teach it the way it is supposed to be tought. Like you said I don't and some of our children are being left behind even if we do have the no child left behind act.

My son needs help all the time and the truth is we are not capable of helping him as he is being taught solely in French and neither my husband or I can speak French . I do feel that they should have something in place where there would be someone the children could go to when they don't understand and get extra help as with children like my son , they are just being passed by because there is no one there to help him and this is not helping him at all . He now has learning difficutlies because the schools have so many rules they have to follow that children are being left behind not knowing what to do and when it is finally realized it is too late . As I realized years ago that my son was struggling but the school objected to anything I had to say because of their guidelines they have to follow .
