Texting and Chatting.. better way to gain friends?

In this modern world one can practically meet anyone even though he/she is from another country. There are now computers, internet for chatting, im's and cellphones. Well, have you ever tried befriending someone through the use of any of this? Many have found their partners, and gain friends this way. Do you think what those people experience, by just chatting and texting is enough to become good friends or even lovers? Is it possible to love someone whom you only know and meet through texting and chatting? Are you satisfied that you can't see the person? Or even if you can see him/her because of the webcam and 3G are you still contented of what you know about him/her? I would like to hear from your opinions...
