What do you do when the power goes out?

My son gets frightened when the power goes out at night, but he loves candles and we light sparklers, too, to distract him. :) I kind of like it when the power goes out, if I donĀ“t have a deadline to meet because it means my husband and I can sit and talk without the distraction of computers or tv or music.

It is kind of peaceful when the power goes out, isn't it? Like you mentioned no distraction or interuption from television and computers. Plus it is quiet all around, like there is less disturbance in the air. Everyone huddles closer together and for a little while seems to remember the closeness of family. We have oil lamps on the ready for power outtages, as well as candles. They give off such a nice soft glow, it si comforting in a way.

We don't have power failures that often in Singapore. But usually when it happens, it will be back pretty soon. If it is just some fuse blown issue in our own house, then we try to fix it, and navigate our house using candles and torches.. while waiting for power to come back.

I still visit some remote villages without electricity power. It gives a unexplainable joy, as if I experienced that joy previously.

a flashlight.. be careful lighting sparklers..that's a good way to burn your house down.
