What is a torrent?

Guys i've been hearing a lot about this new p2p sharing through torrents, but i fail to understand how they work, i tried downloading BitTorrent but nothing worked out? Could anyone help me here pls?

Well, bit torrent is a p2p file distribution protocol, this is a method of distributing large amounts of data over the internet from different locations. Basically in bit torrent protocol, the more the seeds the higher of chances your download will complete faster because you can download different parts of the file from different locations- enabling those that share the file not to use up much bandwith on your behalf. Once you've downloaded a part of the file, in default you are also sharing this to be downloaded also by other users. In order to use this, you need a bit torrent client like bittorrent, bittornado, azureus, etc. installed on your pc. Then search for bit torrent files. The key is health of the torren, the more seeders the better. IF there is no seeder, don't consider even trying to download it for there is very little chance that you will complete the download, unless it is a very small file. Leechers also help, it's also good to have more leeachers but these are incomplete downloaders.
