Where in Florida do you live?

I live in Citra, Fl, which is just north of Ocala, race horse country. I used to live in Pine Hills which is just west of Orlando. I hated living there, trying to raise my young impressionable children, so I moved. Now, instead of living in a "city" where we had so many neighbors to deal with along with drug and gang activity, loose women, and police in our area of all hours of the day we live WAY out in the country. I have a 8 acre parcel of land, as do my neighbors (so I don't have to listen to them talk/yell at each other) and it is utter peace and quiet, no traffic, no police activity and no solicitors. Where do you live in Florida? Do you like it? Have you lived in other places in Florida? Where you born here, like me, or did you move here later in life?

Hi! I live in Lakeland Fl. and it is located smack dab between Tampa and Orlando. I love Florida and am originally from a Chicago Il suburb. We eventually (when the kids are done in school) plan on moving down south on the gulf, probably Sarasota or somewhere out there. Nice to meet a fellow Floridian! Have an AWESOME ONE! Glo

I moved to Florida from Michigan when I was almost 16. Didn't have much choice at that age. I live in Holiday which is over near Tampa/St. Petersburg area. It's not bad but I don't really care for it. I don't like the heat and I don't like how the businesses in the areas cater to certain groups. I would love to move out of state but one not sure to where and two that costs money I don't have. Oh well could be worse. At least my area seldom gets the hurricanes (knock on wood).

I used to know some people from Holiday. I understand completely what you mean about the businesses catering to certain people, it got really bad when I lived in Orlando. Here in Marion County, it's not so bad, the people here are pretty "hoytie-toytie" though, very snobbish - upscale I guess is what they would call themselves.

I now live in Sanford, Florida just outside Orlando. I moved here from Kissimmee,Florida after our house was destroyed by 2 hurricanes and a tornado, which struck one right after the other. Before we moved to Kissimmee we lived in Orlando. I have lived in Florida for over 30 years. No, I wasn't born here I was born in Alabama. I moved to Florida from Atlanta, Georgia. I thought that everyone that lived here was a "transplant" from another state! I have yet to meet anyone here that was born here. My youngest daughter was born in Orlando but she now lives in Tennessee. I don't think I want to live anywhere else because I don't like the cold weather they have further north. Even the northern part of Florida gets too cold for me. It's nice to know that a few Floridians are still around.

I'm so sorry to hear about the troubles you have experienced. Thankfully, I have never been directly hit by the natural disasters that often plauge Florida. I'm glad that you still like it here! I have never lived anywhere else but, like you, can't imagine living where it gets colder. Here in Citra we are always about 10 degrees cooler than when we lived in Orlando and even that was a big change for me. Both sets of my grandparents moved here to Florida so my parents were born here in Florida as well; even now, the majority of my family still live here so I don't have many people to miss!

People here are a lot, should I say, calmer.. Not the hurry up and wait.

I used to live in Winter Garden. LOVED IT. Weather was nice and should have my head examined for moving to Seattle. HATE SEATTLE AND SEATTLE TRAFFIC. So I move to Alabama. LOVE IT. Quiet and my neighbors are friendly. Church on one side and an empty house on the other

That is so funny! I used to live in Winter Garden too! My maternal grandparents lived there while raising there kids and my grandfather still lives there to this day! My mom and I moved to Winter Garden (from Orlando) when I was in 8th grade and I lived there until my husband and I got married. I love Winter Garden, it is so beautiful and they have done so much to it to restore the town. They recently re-bricked the entire part of Plant Street. Love to meet people from Winter Garden!
