I am originally from WV and have the whole Appalachian accent down pat. It won't leave, I don't even try anymore. I hate people with phony accents, like Madonna. Have you heard her talking lately...she's from the USA, New York or New Jersey at that...that's not an accent, she's just made that up. Everyone gets a kick out of the way I talk, but oh well, it's me :).

I live in the South and I like the way they speak. I am constantly told I have an accent ( which they usually get wrong the wrong country) but I dont hear it I think I sound southern. Just talk the way it comes naturally. I think there's nothing worse that anyone trying to speak with a phoney accent.

one's accent doesn't make them hillbilly, their attitude and education does. I love the Kentucky accent, its sosweet and sugary sounding. If you want to improve your spelling, I suggest you read more . Reading can improve your spelling because you see the words and your brain remembers the correct spelling. You could also look into online upgrading classes to get your GED. That way, you'd be taught how to spell the way they teach adults and apparently, its easier, since they tend to use phonics. Good luck!

I love your discussion topic!! I never realized how much of a southern accent that I do have until I went to work at a call center. I had more compliments on my accent, I'd say you can tell? They would reply, of course I can tell. I don't say howdy or anything, and I try to keep my ya'alls to a minimum. My hubby and my step brothers and sisters are way worse than me, he he he. Nothing wrong with a southern accent. Be proud!! I'm a lot farther south than you are, but southern is good and a lot of people say a southern accent is very attractive.

I am from the south and growing up I always prided myself in sounding like the guy on the tv news. I went off to college in the deep south and I came back with the worst accent ever. My family was in horror. Now in my hometown I am strange person because I don't talk funny but when I go to California or the east coast I am automatically deducted 10 IQ points for my redneck accent. I love talking to Europeans since they are trained in the Queen's English and the southern drawl messes em up real good.
