My friend does that too, she makes these lovely homemade cards which she gives me on my birthday and at Christmas, I have kept them all, I can't bear to throw them away, all that hard work and thought behind them, they mean so much more to me than shop bought ones, which I recycle afterwards. A homemade card is far better than a shop card anyday! As a child I used to cut up all my Christmas cards and make them into Christmas tags for the following Christmas and I would save the bows of presents as they were easily reusable, my bit for recycling LOL!

Most definitely! I found a couple of websites that also offer nice birthday verses (both funny and sentimental) so that I can always make my own cards (either craft or on the computer) so that I can add a verse that is more personalised and therefore geared much more to the person getting it. I also tend to keep bits of wool around as they often end up as a pair of booties for an unexpected baby or they go to the local hospital to the preemie unit to help a baby along that needs the extra warmth. I may be blind, but it certainly doesn't stop me from living and giving pleasure to others wherever I can :)

I guess that I am a packrat. I do not like to throw things away. How do I know that i might someday need the very thing that I threw away? (Of course, I might have trouble finding it if I really do need it someday with so many things saved). how about you?

Me, i ussually keeps my daugthers things like dresses, toys and her other things. Now that i recently gave birth with my second daugther i did not any more shop for many things for her because i already have kept some things for her from my first daugther. So i save a lot and it is like investing.

I save some things. I do a lot of craft projects with kids when I am babysitting. It's a great way to pass the time, and the kids really enjoy it. I have found that saving the faces of cards area great idea. I have saved popsicle sticks. There are actually a lot of craft projects that can be done with those. Last week I had to babysit for my friend, so the kids and I made popsicle stick people!

I don't save these things because I am not a crafter- I don't have a creative bone in my body. My grandmother was, however. She saved every single thing that you could think of, and had 1/2 of the state of Ohio saving things for her, also. The amazing thing was that she was extremely organized with all of this. Everything was in a specific container and it was all labelled and organized. She was amazing, actually. I always admired the things that she made, and I still have many of them here at my house. I just never caught on!

I absolutely do. I like to add a little personal touch and I find great satisfaction when I can recycle some of the stuff I've kept. I've made cards, little gifts, added to scrapbooks, decorated presents, etc.

I'm fond of saving things. I am a resourceful person and I'm used to re-use whatever I have so that somehow, a thing unused has regained its use. Same thing applies in ideas. I never trash it all the way. Sometimes, when I write stories, I make use of some misspelled words and use it as a name for my characters.

If I feel that it can be reused, I would save it. Why waste since it still has values left? For instance, I save "rough paper" to scribble things. ;-)

Yes I do.I have a drawer of old shoestrings clean but used. When I need to tie up a feed pail to the fence and I've even tied the fence up untill I could get to it.I I didn't have it I'd have to run to the store and I have that.Sleeves and legs that get cut off for whatever reason make great quilt pieces ofr you can sew the bottom together anput in a draw string for a neat little bag.My daughter goes to horse shows and it's a great way to transport the bridle etc and not get it scratched.I use old jewerly, take it apart, make tiny decorations for small christmas trees to take to the nusing homes for the elderly. And on and on.I don't throw anything away unless I'm sure it has no more use. I grew up with the waste not want not attitude of my parents and I've passed it to some of my children. R

I think that this is a brillant idea to make your own cards, oh yes your poems are lovely Weemam, I think that by doing your own cards that they are more personalized this way. I have many of these items but I never thought to use them for making my own cards what a great idea. I think that I should start making my own cards as well, seeing I have all of these items.

I do actually. I've recently moved to this place and I'm saving everything I find in the garden. I found a penny that was issued the year I was born, a toy soldier, other toys, a curtain rod end (not sure of the proper name) and a broken necklace made of purple (my fave colour) plastic beads in the shape of hearts. There are also numerous washers, nuts, bolts, tools, coins, bits of rubber, plastic etc. I throw the rubbish out but I've kept the other "items of interest". I also keep broken necklaces for the beads and birthday cards etc. For my elder daughter's 30th birthday, I got together her birth bracelet (hosp id tag), her original birth certificate, all her childhood birthday cards, all her school reports and swimmimg and camp certificates and bundled them all with ribbons etc. She was delighted and I hope these things will interest her children. My other daughter said ..."Don't bother doing that for me, I'm not interested in that sort of sentimental stuff." How I'd love to be as crafty as you weemam because all my "stuff" is put safely away and when the time comes will probably get thrown out. *sigh*

LOL...weemam, you just described me here. A bookmark given by a friend, a dried rose bud, a small piece of paper, concert tickets and so on. I placed everything in a cute box. I think we're both sentimental with regards to little things like that, weemam. It may be not be expensive but the memories are not something we can easily forget. Happy posting!

When I was kid I used to keep a lot of things and accumulated huge stuff. Many a times a lot of stuff used to be useless and had to be thrown away many days later. I remember reading the definition of 'junk' in an archies comic issue - Something you keep for years thinking that you may need it and then dispose it off just 2 day before you need it. I have experienced that many times. These days I don't keep a lot of things, but something that touches my sense of beauty, I instantly save it.
