Before leaving the room for hotel checked out my roommate packed all her belongings into her suitcase. After that she collected all the hotel provided stuffs like soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, tissue, comb, shampoo etc and stuffed them into her luggage. Is it proper to do so?

When you leave the hotel the maids come and clean and throw away what has been used. If you haven't used it then they can leave it for another person. When I stay at a hotel I take with me only my stuff but I don't see any problem with people taking the soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, etc. home if it is used.

Yeah, everyone has his own habit. Some prefer to leave the unused stuffs there and some take away them as souvenirs. Like my roommate she was very fond of collecting those stuffs before checking out.

I don't know why the people collects these things;in 99% of cases they are not so good things, they're made of a bad quality,I don't understand their interesting. My sister too has the same "hobby".It's not an illegal thing, but it's a strange and it's not a classy thing

I think this type of people might have developped a sort of habbit of collecting things just for the sake of collection without bordering the value of the things that they collected.

Those items that your roomate took should already be charged into the bill. It's ok to take some of the items, like matches or writting paper. It's like souvenir, to remind us that we had stayed in that particular hotel. Although it's does not have any significant financial impact that we took things from the hotel room, but it's a bad habit to do so. It reflect our greedy personality.

I agree. We could take away anything that we had paid for it in the hotel room for souvenir. It’s really a bad habit to take away things that are forbidden.

As a common sense, the items your roommate collected are already bought by you and become your property. It is no harm to take all your own property before leving the hotel room. The only things was that your roommate didn't share the property with you :)!

You are right, happylim, we have the right to take away anything that we had paid for it. It’s ok for her to collect those stuffs since she was happy to do so lol...That is why she always likes to share the same room with me.

Hotel rooms usually have a notice that you can take away any items stated as sovenior by paying the price stated, but so far I didn't see any items that you mentioned included. As I know all the things that your roommate taken have already been bought by you and your roomate. I think it is no harm to collect your "own property" !? The only things is that your roommate should share the property with you :)!

Soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, tissue, shampoo, small stuff like that it's for the guest for free. Quest can do anything with it, eve threw them at the garbage bin. The over reaction is the towel being stole. Now that's hotel properties. I have live at a hotel, been see lots, been hear lots.

I believe no one could take away any of the hotel belonging, for the receptionists would contact the house skipping to make sure that none of the belonging is lost while customer having checkout at the counter. No one willing to pay for the used stuffs with ordinary price if caught in an act! this is the best way to prevent the customer stealing the hotel belongings. We never heard any hotel bankrupt for losing these stuffs before . So don't worry, dian.

pen with a cap - pen with a cap image
Guests that come to Internet cafe likes to borrow my pen. Sometimes they just take from my working desk without permission. Mostly i lost it one or two, i need them too to make cashflow book every night. So, my trick is I just threw away the cap of my pen in the bin, and leave the pen on my desk just like that. And no body interesting to take it as a "souvenir". LOL

Before leaving the room for hotel checked out I like to collect some of the hotel provided stuffs. I like the soap and the small bottle shampoo. They are very cute and beautiful. I don't like the toothpaste, toothbrush and comb. The comb is for man and it is not beautiful. I don't like to use man comb.

Yeah che, most of the responses I've got from our friends saying that all these small stuffs were already paid when check, so it shouldn't be considered as to take small advantages over it. As I know those people like us usually don't feel pleasant to see serviceable stuffs to be ignorantly wasted. It's also against the concept of environmental care. What's more it still could serve as a souvenir. So we always feel happy to collect these small stuffs before leaving the hotel room. posting and have a nice day.

If the belongings are supposed to be given to the customer such as little botle of shampoo, hair cap etc. ,why not?But such as blanket, towels or glasses which are not suppsed to be "free" for the customer, then it's better not show our 'greedyness'!My opinion is that those things are considerd paid by the bill, then just treat it automaticaly can be taken by the customer, right?

You are right, honeybee. We could only collect those small items especially for customers but not the belongings of the hotel.

Stuffs like shampoo, soap, comb, toothbrush, etc. are meant to be used and consumed by the guests who check in...so I guess it's ok to bring them as long as the other stuff are still there, like towel, even tissue. You know we have done that as souvenir...part of our collection. We bring our own stuff, instead of using what the hotel provides ...this is not really prohibited, is it? Of course, you will be charged if you consume food and beverages found in the ref, otherwise, there is no extra charge for consuming those items mentioned above becoz they are meant to be consumed, really....

Hi psyche, nice to meet you here. To day I am busied myself clearing the “old debts”, added comments to those responses of the old discussions lol You had just back to your hometown after having your educational tour to Malaysia and Singapore, right? How about the hotel life in these two countries? I have never tried the beverages in the ref as they are comparatively expensive than those sold outside unless I am too thirsty.

Good morning, dear lkbooi. I don't think it improper for one to collect all the hotel-provided soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, tissue, come, and shampoo. Why? Because when we check in the hotel after paying for the hotel room, we are offered to have this for our own use, the fee of which is paid already. But for some reason, I do not like those stuffs, as the quality of them is not good. I always bring with me my own stuff to use while travelling. I never use the towel in the hotel room.

Hello lkbooi. I am glad that you just came back from your nice travel with your husband. Yeah, there are still so many elegant princesses for me to search for one by one till I walk out of the mysterious forest. Right now I am happy there in your forest of discussions. I will always start with the last land of forest to make it on top again. You may rest assured of your princesses that I will be able to take them all out of the forest for fun with more friends. hehe

Leaving the room with soap, toothpaste and other small stuff is ok and its allowed by the hotel management but leaving with towels and bedsheet is unethical. it is not a good idea at all. You paid only for such things like soap and lotion but not bed sheets.

Of course my dear, we take away only those items we have already paid for. Lol as far as I know, no body does ever take away any hotel room bed sheet except towel. But it is forbidden to take away any towels. He will be fined for a certain amount of money if caught for doing so.

Yep, I totally agree with you, we have the right to take away the hotel stuffs since we have already paid for them. It depends only whether we are interested on them.

It's okay to pack those small items since you paid for them. They are included in the bill as a sort of service charge. And some of these are real nice items. One of my friends collects sopas and she was very happy with the little bar of Mickey Mouse soap I brought back from Disneyland Europe.

Yeah, it is no problem to collect small items which had paid for them. I do know friends who like to have collection of bar soaps. We could find some bar soaps in the hotel room are well designed and with attractive packing. It is really an attraction for those who are fond of collecting bar soaps.

I always take them too. The way I see it, you're paying for those things as part of the cost of your hotel room, so you might as well make good use of them if you've basically bought them anyway. The cost of those things is added in with the cost of the room, so I don't think it's bad to use them at all.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong in taking those things, but it's not classy to do it. This habit seems to be harmless crank;). I don't like to behave like this and I would leave those things in the hotel room.

Every man has his own liking, so anyone could do whatever he likes, to collect the stuffs or not to collect the stuffs that we had paid for them. The most important thing is that we better don’t take away anything that is considered to be the belongings of the hotel.
