What is the difference between the one you have and the Asus brand motherboards? I was under the impression that Asus was the best of the best for motherboards.

I have to agree with Taskr36, I have been using a Gigabyte GA-81PE1000 for a couple of years and it is a first class reliable motherboard. There are many important factors when considering a motherboard, such as number of PCI slots and DIMM sockets.

Bios update is not necessary unless the mainboard is funcioning well & has support for all the hardwares attached with it.Don't give it a try on your new one if it is running well...otherwise the third motherboard will be much cosliar.

I think that you was very fortunate, because a wrong BIOS upgrade would mean that the fault was caused by yourself. Upgrading the BIOS has always been a risky business and should not be done unless you especially require new features. If you must upgrade the BIOS, always back up the original setting so that you can reinstall it in the event of a problem.
