I was wondering,Students if you knew about someone that was going to do something harmful at your school would you say someting to an adult about it (ie: harming a teacher by hitting, poisoning, or other acts; use of guns, etc.)? If you knew of a student yas going to harm himself/herself what would you do? Adults if you heard of something such as this what would you do? would you take it with a grain of salt or would you be concerned?

usually, where i live, it's most probable for a teacher to hurt a student, or a student hurt another student, but not for a student to hurt his/her teacher. perhaps it is in our culture, to respect older people, and fear those in authority. i have heard quite a number of stories about teachers hurting the students as a form of discipline. but it is nevertheless prohibited and the teachers are reprimanded by either the school authorities, or by our government. i have a 5-yr old son who goes to school and i don't think i would ignore any hurting he would experience from his teacher if ever. being a mother, i don't hurt my son to discipline him, so why would someone else do it to him? children need attention and love, and not hurting. one only needs to explain things to them in simple terms that kids would understand.

As a teacher and an overprotective one at that, I take talk like this very seriously. There is a zero tolerance policy for violence in most schools and these things must be reported. Our administration is very big on teachers assisting with being the eyes and ears of the school. There is no way that any adult or student should not be concerned.

as a parent i love to hear this. thank you. the reason for this discussion is that my son has asked me to write an article having to do with violence in school, he and i have done alot of research and i found (as i dont watch alot of news) that many of the assults that have happened in schools have been talked about in school, amoung peers and has been brought to the attention of some teachers etc. and had not been acted upon to stop things because they didnt think it would happen in their schools; this bothered me and i had to do more research to see if this is common thinking or if the majority would act to stop the action if possible. again thank you for being a teacher and a concerned one at that.
