Human mind consist of two mechanism. The "conscious" and the "sub-conscious".. the conscious plays mainly when we are awake. that is how we react on our day to day experience,.. the sub-conscious mind is the in-charge when we are in the sleep mode, Thus dreams came from our thought and there is a probability the sub-consciouse mind can manifest what we have experience from the past days through the conscious mind stored in our memory... :) thank you.. and welcome to mylot..

I think the answer to that is most likely both. However, most of my dreams come from something that has been going on with my life in the past week or so. I think especially if it is a serious situation, it tends to stay with you longer and re-play itself in your dreams.
