My kids like to feed the bathroom sink, at the moment it is blocked with oaty banana muffins. Last week it was toilet roll blocking it. How do I stop the sink blocking or clear it without usung too many chemicals? Would Bicarbinate of Soda help?

You should buy a drain plug while you are out buying a new plunger.

Whats a drain plug? is it different from a normal plug and will I need the plumber to fit it? I have those little round things with the tiny holes for the kitchen sink that you pop in the plughole - is it the same?

Put your baking soda down there and then put vinegar. The mixture should expand and push things through although I would fish out any solids that you can. Good luck with this. There should be harsh payout on behalf of the offender.

Thanks honey, I use vinigar and bicarb a lot and did wonder, it's taken all night for about half a bowl of water with bleach in it to creep through so I'm going to have a serious mess to try and sort out. At the moment they have to go in my en-suite with one of us watching over them, it's made worse by the fact they were meant to be on a 10 minute tidy in their bedroom, I didn't even know they'd pinched treats from the kitchen as food is not allowed past the lounge, little darlings.

I agree weith the baking soda and vinegar. It should clear it. Mine tend to be blocked by my 12 yo hair and this is no easy feat to remove! I hope this wasn't a testament to your cooking skills lol

What worries me is I posted the recipe here for my friends too, lol I wonder how many blocked sinks I can cause? Maybe I should keep my head down, haha?

ha-ha, lol. I might make cookies later, let you know if they go the way of the muffin. "The way of the muffin" does that sound a bit life science fiction or a diet tip, lol!

I usually will regularly pour boiling water into my sink to prevent my sink from minor blockages - bits of food that manage to get past the sink hole filter. For major blockages which even the pump can't clear, then I will have to unscrew the works and clear it all out manually. As to how to prevent sink from blocking especially when it is stuffed by the things you mentioned I really have no idea except to help your kids understand that they shouldn't be stuffing things down the sink because it causes alot of trouble for poor mommy!

Thanks hopeful, do you really undo the back of the sink yourself -wow, that's waht men are for isn't it lol? I have now discovered the reason for this - they are making magic potion to cast spells - good or bad I'm not sure I want to know. Luckily the plunger when I found it did the trick - twice since too. Poor mummy is on bathroom duty at the moment and I have to go with them to try and avoid the mess caused by potions, lol.

often i will just use a plunger however that has caused problems once, where it killed the pipes and i had to have someone fix them. my grandmother likes to use bleach.

Thanks honey, guess I'd better be careful then, I don't wnat to kill the pipes until I've saved up for my new bathroom!

I think it would. But can you not just remove the muffins with your hands? Then use a manual pump to clear the clog?

hanks, this is the plan, I just have to go and buy a new plunger - mine vanished, I've removed all I can but the water is still nor vanishing, I'm sure I can sort it out later with a plunger, fingers crossed anyway, lol.

Hi Rainbow. I have the same problems, but it is the birdies who do these things, with peanut shells and anything light enough to be dumped in the sink! I find using a fine mesh plug hole cover catches the mess before it reaches the plug hole, but you have to be careful because if one of the little darlings turns the tap on you are likely to be flooded out. I use white vinegar in boiling water on gungy plug holes and that works reasonably well, but the steam does my eyes in if I get too close to it. I used to keep my niece and nephew in a restricted area when they ate, but I made a game out of it so that they did not notice they were doing as they were told, and that stopped a lot of the food migration. I hope that some of these ideas is helpful and good luck :-)

Thanks Shelagh, some good ideas there, I can see I'm going to have to find a sieve a bit like a teas strainer that will stay in there, lol.

hi! my sink is probably hungrier than yours coz my kids fed it a couple of marbles! we couldn't use the sink for a whole week till the handyman came to unclog it. now, i put a little wire strainer on the hole so that if anything "accidentally" falls into it, it stays on the strainer and it's easier to scoop out.

I have a couple in the kitchen, they just sit in the tp, maybe they would stay in bathroom sink, I'll have to look for something more permanent, At least marbles won't fit down my bathroom sink, bless you that is so not nice.

The best way to stop the blocking of the draim......get rid of the kids no chemicals needed lol. I dont in any situation actually support the statement above it is purely for entertainment purposes so laugh.

Thanks Grandpa Bob, tesco didn't have a lunger and there's nowhere open today so it's taken all night for half a bowl of water to escape, lol. Will have to look at that site although I think Shrek may end up unscrewing the back, he's not impressed bless him.
