God and The Law of Attraction

I've gotten into a little bit of a discussion with a guy at work about God and the Law of attraction theory. I believe that both are valid. He belives that the bible is the end all. I even brought to his attention that the bible is full of Law of attraction evidence such as "ask and you shall recieve" this still dosn't seem to jive with him. Anyone have any other evidence that I can use?

You cannot change his mind, and neither should you try to. If you do not want someone to question why it is that you believe in the Universal Law of Attraction, then do not bother explaining your beliefs to him. The problem is not he does not believe that you have a right to believe, but rather, perhaps, that you are trying to hard to prove to him that yours is as valid as his. From your post it sounds as though you are trying to convert him. He has his set of beliefs, so it is wise to stop trying to get him to see that you are allowed to believe how you care to.

I would never try to convert him. LOA isn't a religion, its merely a way of thinking. I only wish him the best in life and the whole reason it was even brought up was because of his own unhappiness! :)

To me they are just about the same thing to believe in the law of attraction and to walk in the ways of God. I am a believer in God and having seen the movie just recently I can see the similarities. For example in the movie they try to explain the creation from two different perspectives - that of the scientist and that of a believer in God. The scientist would say that the creation started with energy and to explain energy "it was always there and cannot be destroyed or made" and the believer will say that God created life and to explain God "he was always there and cannot be destroyed or made". I have no problem with this. Its just that man has tried to come up with ways of explaining the unknown. Yes the bible is filled with the laws of attraction and maybe that is the way God intended for his message to reach the masses through this movie because I know that persons who have seen it would not have watched it if it was a 'christian' movie. They may just understand what it means to become a believer in God after all through following the law of attraction.

True it is odd at how some people respond to something if it is religious and yet be more open if it is spiritual. Thanks for the response!

I absolutely agree with you. But if he's made up his mind, that resistance can be impossible to overcome. And the more you push the more he'll push back. Maybe just let him think on it a day or two; don't bring up the issue. Sometimes people then come back to you talking about it, and act as if it were their idea! lol Also, some people are very frightened in their religious outlook. They feel if they look outside of the Bible-only-it's bound to be something evil. This has always puzzled me; if God indeed is alive and functioning, then it seems reasonable that there would be things happening today from that, rather than ending 2000 years ago. But some churches don't encourage free thought at all, and this may be the type of church he attends. In that case any pushing on your part is pretty threatening. But it is aggravating when you're trying to get across a perfectly reasonable position!

I don't plan on pushing the issue as we are friends and I plan on staying that way. I have just found that those who are supposedly the most "religious" tend to also be the most close minded on other spiritual issues or paths.

Has he ever read this book. The bible and The secrets are 2 sides of the same coin. The idea is the same, just different names are used.
