Hi, I know 21 is young to have MS, and wishing you didn't have to go through it. I have had MS about as old as you are, I am 45. I was dx'd at the age of 25 I think. More and more these days I see people younger dx'd with MS. One good thing is they have caught it early enough that you can begin your treatment. I have seen and heard others that are in wheelchairs walk again. I have friends who are in a wheelchair, and still have lots of life in them. I have ON in my left eye so my sight is messed up some. I still walk, and drive. My whole body is numb tingly. My feet get hot, and ice cold. I have cognitive issues, memory, thought processes, talking like I am drunk, mumbling sometimes. Bladder problems, and bowel. The more I walk the heavier my legs get so I don't walk to far these days. Unless I have something I can hold onto or push. Ihave felt the MS hug as they call it. Have felt the electrical tingly going down my spine. I use betaseron, neurontin, detrol xl, lipitor, sleeping aids, and a few vitamins. I try hard to stay positive, and to live my life. I try not to focus on what MS has taken from me but, what MS has given me. Sure I have me days, then I have friends who support me as I support them. Let me tell ya they don't let me be down for long. I use to say I love MS. I know how can I right? I guess it was a way for me to make it a part of my life. I can't change it, although I wish I could for all of us who suffer from any dieases. Hang in there the best you can, and messages me if you want. Take care, know someone is thinking of you.

Hi, I'm 31 and I've had MS for almost 17 years. I was diagnosed in Septmeber 2003 but the symptoms go back to 1990. My legs also get very heavy when I am tired, hot or try to walk too far and I've also had the annoying MS hug. I get numb mostly in my feet but it can happen anywhere. I've been on Copaxone since January 2004 and now my doctor believes I may be in remission. I now have less lesions on my latest MRI than I did on my first one which was excellent news. I continue to take Copaxone everyday and I'm on Baclofen to help with the stiffness. I'm doing very well these days and I hope you are too. Good luck to you and take care.

Walk for the Cure! - MS Walk
Hello dearie! I was diagnosed at age 43, but they reckoned I've had MS since I was in my mid-30s. I am now 52 and in a wheelchair and wished they could have diagnosed me sooner, but the test for determining MS didnt come out until the 1990s, so I was a little late. However, the thing is to be positive and keep on your meds and treatments. I hope you will do the MS Walks in your locality each year and am glad to meet you!

Hey you, guess what? They have a pediatric MS clinic in my city! So your age is not uncommon especially these days. If you go to MySpace there are groups for younger folks with MS even!!! Check it out it may be good for you to see more people who are affecterd at your age. I got MS at 20 or that's when the first obvious symptoms came out leading me to my dx... What are you doing in the hospital for that length of time? Have you been doign chemo?I just started but I go in and out for treatments 1x every 6-8 weeks :) If ever you'd like to talk or get links to those groups msg me! *hugs*

I was diagnosed with MS 8 years ago, age 34. I was not as young as you but appreciate what you may be going through. I have 2 sons so had a different set of problems. After a difficult time my condition eventually stabilised and I returned to work, as an RN, 2years ago. I can only work part time but feel as if I have my life back again. yes I still have bad days but I also have lots of 'good' days. Everyones MS is different but hope this gives you hope. I take Rebif injections and medication for bladder weakness. I also found joining a support group a good idea as you find lots of useful ideas on how to cope with various problems. Good luck. :)

I know what it is like to have MS. I was diagnosed 10 years ago. Even though I am older than you, I am sure you still have the same emotions of it that runs through my brain at times. 21 is a young age to have it, but don't let it stop you. I fought it for a long time. I have heard people say "I have MS, but it doesn't have me". That does ring true. It is just so danged annoying at times. On the other hand. When I was first diagnosed I joined a Yahoo MS support group (MSFriends 2). I met a wonderful guy and 3 yrs ago we got together and have been together ever since, so I can say that MS can be a blessing in some ways.
