Ok, I want to get a cat. I am a cat person!! Always have been. I love dogs too, but I prefer cats. But everytime I bring it up with my husband.(Dog person) He asks, "where are you gonna put the catbox?" Well, that question always stumps me. I guess it depends on your house and the layout. But with our house right now, I would have to say that it would be...crap I don't know! Sadly, it would have to be in our front room! lol. Cause the way our house is, is you walk in and that's supposed to be the formal dining...then you go thru the room and turn the corner to the kitchen and living room. lol. But all of our bathrooms don't have room for it really...and I wouldn't want it in our master bath. Not really room there either. So where do you keep yours?

Well we have one in the far corner of the kitchen by the basement door. My mom has one in her bedroom and I have one in my bathroom. My brother solved his problem by putting it in his basement and putting a little kitty door on the bottom of the basement door so they can go down to the litter box with the basement door closed. My girlfriend keeps hers in her laundry room. Sometimes you just have to be creative...lol Take an empty basin and see where you could put it..that might help you find the perfect spot...good luck.

My litter box is actually in a hallway to my back porch. I have the LitterMaid litter box that sweeps the dirty, clumped litter into the box.. It's a great investmet, and the best litter to use with it you can find at any petco or petsmart and it's called "The Worlds Best Cat Litter" it's in a yellow bag, and it's made up from corn. No odors witht that litter. I have 2 cats, and I have tried soooo many types of litter and that's the only one that I have found that works.. Best of Luck!

We keep ours in the laundry room. It is a covered one,and we have it under a little table we have in there for storing and stacking stuff. We turned it so it faces the side of the furnace so that there is room for the cat to get in, but the dog can't get his head in there to turd-burgle. When I lived in an apartment, I had a galley kitchen and I kept it in the corner on the farside of the fridge from the counters and stove. Since it was covered and I kept it clean, it wasn't too bad having it there.

Yeah, pretty disgusting! He only did it a few times when he was young, and we though he had grown out of it. So, we got a little lax about blocking the entrance to the box. But, I caught him doing it the other day, so we have stepped up security measures again! Supposedly, dogs are prone to do this when they are lacking something in their diet like salt or other minerals.

Actually, my cats have a little door to go in and out of the house. This way they can do their business outside. I also put a little box out there just so they don't have to go very far. I used to keep it in the bathroom but it is hard to deal with when you have guests.

Yea, I thought about that too. I guess if I got a "fixed" cat, I could do that. I'm just always afraid of something happening to them. lol

our litter box is in the kitchen right under our microwave stand it fits nicely is out of the way. Our kitchen floor is tile so it's easy to sweep up as my cat tends to be messy.... my parents have a cat and they have a seperate pantry and they have the litter box in there it's close to the kitchen it tile floor easy clean up. if it has to be in the living room do u have a desk or something it can go under that way no one will see it.... if your floors carpeted if u don't have one get a dust buster it will help with clean up cause they do tend to scatter litter around and that way u aren't vacuming all the time. happy cat trails!!!!!

I guess technically, I could put one against the front of the kitchen island...there's a slight overhang...but then again, I don't think I want a catbox anywhere near the kitchen! lol. Not to mention, it has to be someplace where the babies won't mess with it. That's all I need is my toddlers eating cat poop!

Well when I lived at home with my parents, we kept the litter box down in the basement, just seemed liked the easiest spot plus it gave our cats some much needed exercise! I know my neighbors used to keep their dome-style litter box in their wreck room and I wouldn't have even known it was there if it wasn't for me housesitting, you couldn't smell it at all.

We have two litter boxes, one in each bathroom. In the smaller bathroom(one of those half baths that only has a toilet and sink), it's a very small litter box that wasn't really supposed to be a litter box, it's a small tote box that I bought to fit that space between the toilet and the wall. In the other bathroom, I have a full size litter box in the cupboard under the sink. I just had to show them where it was and open and shut the cupboard door with them in it, and they are able to open the door on their own - they just sort of pull with their paw at the bottom of the door. If they would shut it behind them it'd be great!

The laundry room. We cut a catflap in the door and the cats can go in and out with privacy and our dogs cant get to it. Before we renovated it, we kept it in the master bath under the pedestal sink. Does this help?

That does help, thanks! I think maybe our laundry room would be best if I can fit a box between the washer and dryer...then just leave the door slightly open.

Wherever you decide to keep it, I think the most important thing to remember is to clean it out regularly to keep your kitty happy and to help keep the whiffy smells down. We've got 2 cats and they are both "house cats" they don't go out at all purely cos there are so many other cats and dogs around here I get worried for them. We have lots of visitors and they remark that you wouldn't even know that we had pets cos of the lack of odour. They've got one of the covered in litter trays with the roof and cat flap for them to get into. Our house is also very small and would like to have a seperate area to keep it but instead we keep it outside the bathroom (it won't fit inside!)and we've never had any problems and most importantly Snoopy and Trinny seem more than happy with it where it is.

We pulled the washer and dryer away from each just enough to fit the litter box in between them, I also found a shelving unit that slightly wider than the litter box, I have that up against the wall with the litter and cat food, and laundry supplies. Then the self cleaning litterbox is in front of the shelves. I also purchased a spring rod that fits in between the washer and dryer and made a curtain that matches the curtains in the laundry room. I have it about 14 inches up off the ground, one side is pulled open only 8 inches. "Slickers" Loves the privacy of her own place. And I love the fact that as people come into the house through that door. They don't see the litterbox.

You know, I could probably do that. Thanks! Our washer and dryer are already pulled apart for a small trash can.

Like you we don't have much space right now, but we have some space in the bathroom and that's where the catbox is. We used to have more space before and it was in a room at the back just before we went outside to the backyard but that is gone.

Well we have a bigger house and the litter boxes are in our mudroom. Our mudroom is just inside the back door.. and everyone uses the back door so I guess you could say its the "foyer".. we used to keep them in a spare room too. Just some suggestions. I hope you're able to get one! I have 4 and love them dearly.

Well, we sort of have a "mudroom" too...but it has the washer and dryer in there too...and it's a high traffic area..since we park in the garage. lol. I thought about it tho. thanks!

arghh i cant stand domestic cats reasons i hate cats 1. they all look very similar and there is hardly any variety 2. they show no loyalty to their owner and only come back for food 3. there are so many cats in the uk that it is bad for human health but i think wild cats are amazing they are extremely graceful solitary hunters who are extremely well adapted to their surrounding area. lol sorry i was bored

Well, thanks for that. I guess I just think that cat's are easier to take care of than dogs. I mean, even with dogs, yea there no's catbox, but you still have to pick up the poop in your backyard or wherever they leave it...and dogs smell!!! I mean, we have a dog right now, and she's an akita mix...and thankfully, she doesn't smell very much. But normally, that's what I can't stand about dogs is the smell. And with cats, if the catbox smells, that's your fault, not the cats! lol.

We keep ours in the main bathroom. Our litter box is covered and we use Tidy Cat for multiple cats litter because we have two cats. We empty the cat poop from the litter box everyday. We don't seem to have a smelly house and the covered litter box also helps with having to look at the cat poop. We live in an apartment so you know our bathroom isn't huge. The cats actually belong to my daughter who moved back home this year after being on her own so that she could return to college. Before we had these 2 cats we had a dog for 15 years and before that we had a cat for 5 years. Both my wife and I grew up with dogs and have a preference to dogs but don't mind cats either.

Before I bought my own house I had a spare closet that was private for my cats which I have 4 housecats all fixed and declawed...They really enjoyed that and yes they each have there own catbox cause sometimes cats can be picky like that...but now in my new home I have a small room just as you walk in the front door that is big enough for the cat boxes which are seperated with shelves for boots and on the opposite for coats and such so this works perfect for them, cause it also has a window right above them which helps but I clean them all daily anyway so that has never been a problem and I have very picky, finicky cats..but they my babies so I don't mind, they each even have there own food dishes...spoiled hey...lol

Ours is in the laundry room. That is the best and most convenient place where we could put the box for them.

Well i've always had our cat tray in the laundry - it's not in a room you go in to a LOT, most visitors etc wont go in there & it's out of the way. Mine used to be under the sink in there, along side my washing machine!

Mine is just in the back entrance to my house, which is nice and out of the way. I have to make special efforts to make sure it's clean or you'd smell catbox as soon as you walked in the door, but so far it works. My roommate keeps her at the end of the hall between her door and my other roommates, but it's really not working. She's very lazy and it doesn't get cleaned as often as it should and the vast majority of the time, her kitten kicks the litter all over the hall and you end up walking through it and then cleaning it up yourself. Wish she'd keep it in her room. :S
