I'm looking on eBay at Photoshop Elements 2 and 4... could get either for about the same money. Is 4 better? I'm obviously a novice! Appreciate any advice.

There are really very few differences between all the photoshop elements products, but for the same money go with the newer version. Elements is a great piece of software. I had it for ages before finally being able to afford Photoshop CS.

sorry, forgot to mention the reason for going with 4. If you are going to be looking for text books, tutorials etc for Elements then there will be a lot more available for the newer version (I think they just released Elements 5.0)

Good point! I've never used Photoshop, so this is important to know. I might need to find a tutorial. Is it pretty user friendly? Someone made a couple buttons for one of my blogs using Photoshop 2 and I was so thrilled with what she did I decided I should just but the software myself!

It's a pretty steep learning curve to be honest. There is a lot to learn which is why I would recommend getting a couple of good text books. There are a bunch of really good tutorials sites to...a couple that spring to mind right away are

check around on ebay and you'll find some really good second hand text books at decent prices

Have you considered a free alternative? Try Paint.net perhaps.
It is the free source equivalent for photoshop and it's free! Get it at www.getpaint.net .

cs2 at the moment by far the best one for advanced graphics/ photo makers/editors. If you're a beginner, I suggest Corel Paint Shop Pro XI. Its as great, but simpler and at a way cheaper price. When cs3 comes out, that will definitely beat cs2 in my opinion (when it does come out)
