What do you think of pets, especially dogs, being used in this way? Celebraties are transforming dogs into fashionable disposable accessories. Now leading retail stores are selling pet glasses, t-shirts, hats and leg warmers. The problem is some youngsters are confusing dogs with dress up dolls. Celebreties like Paris Hilton dress up their dogs and use them as fashion accessories. Young girls see this and want to copy them. They soon find out that dogs are a lifetime companion item and not a fashion item. Unfortunately some of these dogs end up at the Animal Rescue League. Sure, it is fine to buy dog coats for winter, but some of these accessories are not needed for the dogs comfort at all. See the accompanying photo. What do you think of this pet asccessory trend?

I personally feel it is ridiculous. I love dogs and have always had dogs. I have never had one small enough to put in a purse or anything like that. I have always preferred dogs that are bigger than that.I don't like the idea of dogs going everywhere with their owners. I know my dog is safer at home than going everywhere I go. I know dogs are like children to some people but I think it is totally out of control lately. My dogs have always been a part of my family and they get treated better than some people. But I always take care of my dogs. But, like anything else, it is a business and there is money to be made with people that think their dogs are little people.

i consider this pet accessory trend a really stupid thing, i have two dogs and i never had the intention to dress them because in the nature the dogs have no dresses, the persons which dress the dogs as humans probably they need a vistit by a psicological doctor....

I think this is wrong if they are just having pets to be fashionable.. Obviously if they love those pets and treat them right ,I guess dressing them up is ok.A pet can be such a great joy in your life.

I think its absolutely pathetic. How wrong and stupid. The celebs shouldnt get away with it, its animal cruelty and the people that copy are just as bad. Its not cute, its ugly and dumb. Dont people realise that dogs have fur and can overheat in these silly clothes. (thats my mild opinion)

I am a dog lover and I used to believe that them some accessories will not do any harm. But now as I see it the telivision, Im changing my mind. They look ridiculous! They evenc created red carpet dresses for dogs. Sure its cute, but I dont think that's not the apt way to show affection to dogs. Dogs, I think dont really care what they wear. They need lots of hugs and playtime..oh and scrumptious meal too!

I think dressing pets, especially dogs is cruel, a dogs normal body temperature is around 101 to 102 degrees fahrenheit, while for humans it's only about 98.6 degrees fahrenheit. Which means dressing a dog especially in hot days can prove to be fatal. The dog may suffer from heat stroke. They regulate their body temperature by panting, they expel heat, if it cannot expel the heat fast, that can be dangerous.. so dressing the dog, covering their bodies with cloth can add to increase its body temperature. Surely if the dog can talk they will not want to be dressed, they are covered with fur anyway.

ever_ready, you hit the nail on the head with your response! Could you imagine being covered with fur to keep you warm or cool and your owner making you miserable by covering you with more insulation?

i always have dogs and i love dogs. and i have asked their vet about dressing them up. however, the doctor disagrees about having my dogs dressed up. here in the philippines, it's pretty hot in here. it will make the dogs feel so uncomfortable. considering that they already have furs... furs are there to protect them from feeling cold. and dogs feels hot inside already. that's why it's good to give them cold water sometimes and make them lick on solid ice. it will make them feel fresh. so, dressing them up will make them feel uncomfortable. it's so unncessary. if we love our pets, we should think of their comforts rather than just making them look cute so otehr people's attention will be drawn to them.... and ofcourse, to the owners! haha! well, whatever our reasons are, better to think first of our pets' coditions before thinking of ourselves.

I think its an awful trend, even when they don't dress them up I feel that lot of dog owners shouldnt really have a pet like that. Even the small dogs need far more excercise than most get and there is nothing worse than seeing a dog left alone at home all day whilst its owner is at work, then all they do is come home and slob on the sofa, few of these dogs get more than a walk to the end of the street and back when most need miles and miles a day, Of course, there are a lot of very good dog owners out there too, but far fewer than the bad ones I'm afraid to say.

well..honestly i didnt mind with dogs using an outfit, as some dogs are like being pretty.so as long as they didnt force the dog to use it then its no problem.they did look cute specialy in western country which are cold so i think its also help them to become more warm

I have a dog from 12 years, I am like my son, I do not buy stupidate, the cuccia, the collar the leash if he breaks off it and the food. It has a coat impermeable for the rain, suffers from arthritis, but we have made it I and my mother hour the "fashion" dogs are alone commerce, I do not find it just, even if I love the dogs, but they are not men.

As long as the pet is not objecting and some do, I see no problem with it. Some seem to enjoy all the attention. Some may view it as abuse however, as long as they do not struggle then I think it a good way to have plenty of attention for their pets. This is a swing from those that abuse their animals in uncalled for ways. I had a similar discussion awhile back and it will be interesting to see what your responders have to say.

I think it's disgusting. i have always been against animals being used for human amusement . That's why I won't frequent a circus or go to these doggie parades. They make the poor dogs so uncomfortable just to amuse themselves.I am not against the dogs wearing sweaters and coats to keep warm but I am against being dressed up to amuse the humans.they deserve much better than that

I hate it when people do that to their animals. Your pet is a living thing, not a fashion accesory. I do understand people putting coats on dogs in the winter if the dog doesn't have thick fur. My vet once told me I had to do that for my dog because her fur wasn't thick enough. I totally disagree with people dressing up dogs otherwise. They're your pet, not a fashion accessory or your child!

I think its kinda cute, especially if the dogs loved it too. But as long as it looks nice, fashion accessories for dogs looks nice for small ones but not applicable for big dogs. But it is sometimes not right to judge a person as to whether she loves her pet or not, we have our own ways of expressing our love and apprefciation for our pet.

I think its stupid- don't they have anything better to do with their money???? Like donate it to an animal shelter so that they don't have to put animals down because there isn't enough money to keep them??? Ugh, people make me sick when it comes to this kind of stuff.

While the pet accessory trend can be seen as cute by many, I fail to see it. Some of those poor dogs look at you like "why me?" Dogs aren't supposed to be accessorized with more than a collar and maybe a flea collar. There's no need for a rain jacket or booties!

i am angry when i see them used as fashion accessories. that shows no respect for the creature. i am glad that there are lots of other people who care about each other, about pets or care in general for all what is living. thank you for this discussion jennybianca

I agree with many of you that this is a ridiculous and sometimes disgusting trend. Sometimes I think it borders on cruelty. I think it demeans the animals and it does give young people the impression that pets are fashion accessories. Young people see people like Paris Hilton and want to emulate her, but they don't realize that there's a lot more to having pets than diamond-encrusted collars. Pets can be a lot of hard work and need a lot of tender loving care. It's sad how many people don't consider this before they buy or adopt a pet. I see so many animals being neglected or mistreated by people who simply can't handle the responsibility. Besides, would you like it if someone 10 times your size constantly dressed you up in silly, more than likely uncomfortable outfits and paraded you around? I know I wouldn't.

I don't like it, one of the things that seperates us from the animals is the fact that we wear clothes and they don't. Why would anyone want to confuse that by putting clothes on thier dogs or other animals?
