I got some good news this past friday - or lets say still itis just an offer. I have been working at this company for about 2 years (soon) and it is a big compnay. When i started i saw that there is alot of potentional to advance and thats one of the reasons that I took the job. And also the reason why I never said no when they gave me more and more work, actually I even volenteared for all that I could =) Anyway, friday a "big boss" called me and wanted to speak with me. I went there and the room was filled with managers. I sat down and I have to admit that I was scared *hahaha* Anyways - they offered me a position as a manager over my department. I was shocked to say the least. This is a BIG step - it never happened to anyone as far as i know. Coz usually you advance a bit at the time - not just take a big leap like that. They will more than double my salary and my job will be more concentrated on staff than costumers. The thing is that i have bene there just 2 years and I KNOW that alot of people that have been there for alot longer are fighting to get there and this will be abig deal to them. I will "boss" over people that might have been there 5, even 10 years and that somehow feels strange. I know that there will be a big jealousy issue - but I shouldn´t let it bother me - should I? Am I selfish for taking the job? I have until middle of week to give my reply. I have decided to take it, like I said it is double my salary, and also will involve ALOT of benefits for me! However I am not to thrilled about the talking that will go around....

I would say, go for it. But on your way up, you have to be very kind and be very polite to everybody down the line. Dont let the Manager-power consume your good qualities. Now that you know there are a lot of people who were looking for this post, you have to be very very patient and understand them. Have a very big margin for them and dont be angry or show anger then you will be unpopular. How much ever you go up, you have to have the support from others. They will sure be spredding rumours and trying to make your life miserable for some time. But you should be able to handle all that with patience and understanding. When you have that approach, people have noway otherthan helping you, even they dont like to. (LOL). I wish you all the best in your new position. You earned it and you deserve it.

if you were offered the job then they must have discussed this and thought you were the better person for the job, the other people can't have what is wanted of the position , I would say congratulations to you , Take the job and just carry on doing what you have been doing , it seems to have been the right thing xx

Marie, your company has seen your hard work and is trying to reward it...take it. I'm sure you'll do great in your new position as manager in your department. In a large company, there will always be some jealousy (especially from people who have been there longer than you have). But that sure doesn't mean that they're more qualified than you are. If they were, one of them would have been offered the promotion, not you. You may want to read a few articles on types of management style and find the one or ones that suit you best. You've earned the promotion...go for it! Congratulations and let us know how it goes.

Firstly congratulations and secondly put aside any jealousy, because that will happen to whoever gets the job regardless of how long they have been there for. Sure weigh up the pros and cons, but if you want to do it and feel you want you are more than capable then go for it! Do what feels right for YOU, people will have to accept your position regardless, if they've got a problem it's theirs not yours. You've earnt it you've worked hard of it! Don't let anyone else stand in your way! Jealousy always exists in the workplace, in any workplace and why stop your career chances because of it!

That is wonderful! Don't worry about how the other people feel. Obviously they were not the best fit for the job. The boss knows who will be the better person for the job. You were the one! Congratulations for your promotion.

Congratulations! You're smart to consider all of the pros and cons, and in this case there is no way that you could ignore the salary increase, the benefits, and the trust and faith that the company has in you and the advancement of your career. You will just have to take the high road and learn how to effectively deal with the jealousy and back-stabbing that will likely go around for a while once people find out. Remember that those who used to be your co-workers are now going to consider you to be one of "them", and you will have to develop a thick skin so that you don't allow what is said to hurt you or to cause you to react. Here is a link to an article that may be of help to you: http://sanjose.bizjournals.com/extraedge/consultants/winning_at_work/2007/02/19/column131.html Congratulations again, and Good Luck!

Congratulations! That's awesome that you got this promotion. Don't worry about what other people say because you're right, it will probably be said just out of jealousy. Justbe the best manager you can be and I'm sure you will earn the respect that you deserve.
