During eclipse expectant mothers are advised not to do any work they are told just to sleep as they say if they do any jobs such as cutting or opening containeers etc their child will have some deformaties depending on the action, they practice this in India, any body else has heard about this or followed this please give your views.

Well they say it.Its an olden saying.By the way has anyone been affected by it in today generation? We just believe it blindly because we do not want to take a risk of our child being defected. But I dont think it has to do anything with the eclipse if there occurs even a deformity.Who knows if its a coincidence with the eclipse? Only a test and a doctors opinion would tell the real cause of the deformity.

Yes, You have heard it correctly. This practice is followed by many in India. It is difficult to say whether it is a supersiticious. Because, if an expectant mother does not take precautions on the day of eclipse, and her child is born with some deformity, she would curse herself - why did not she take precautions on the day of eclipse. Every expectant mother wants a healthy baby, and due to fear and apprehension and on the advice of elders, expectant mothers take all precautions on the day of eclipse, here in India, atleast.
