Being a foreign employee (or a part of a minority), in a certain country have you experienced racial discrimination? if so, how? and how did you deal with this? kindly share your experiences with us... im planning to work abroad and I would like to know what's in store for me and how to cope with it. Thanks in advance..

Hi Catcai,
I'm white, yet when I moved to my current residence, I was definitely in the minority. I also lived in Hawaii as a child, where whites were the minority.
I'm of such a mindset, that I give very little consideration to whether someone is black, white, green, purple or blue. I tend to judge people by their actions, and expect the same.
Unfortunately, others don't always feel the same. When I moved to my current residence I did find that prejudice against whites was a fairly common perception. I felt this mostly in the job market. However, I refused to let it get to me.
It is my experience that most people will come to overlook their personal prejudices when they realize that a person who fits their profile of 'undesireable' is, in fact, a good person who does not threaten them, but rather treats all with respect and courtesy.
I made an effort to be nice to the majority. I didn't go out of my way to point out cultural or stereotypical differences. I just treated all people like any people. And for the most part, mine was a pretty smooth transition.
I will say that language differences were a bit of a problem. But, that's easy to overcome if the newcomer makes an effort to learn the new language. Also, just letting the majority know that you're making an attempt to overcome the language barrier really helps them to open up to you. It says that you are really committed to making the new situation work.
Good luck with your new position. I hope it all goes very smoothly for you.
