thin child - Are thin children unfit healthwise ??

My daughter is 10 month old and she never became plump till date .. she was skinny all through these 10 months .. most kids her age that I have seen are round and plump .. my paediatrician says she is absolutely fine .. just because her activity level is high and her output is twice her input she is thin but very active .. nothing to worry .. but wherever I go people tell me that my daughter looks weak .. and sometimes they even ask me if I feed her properly .. this really puts me down cos I take a lot of care for my daughters health .. should I worry or ignore what people say and listen to my doctor alone .. are there other kids like this???

You must be a first time mom, that's why you sound so upset. You have nothing to worry about. Weight charts are approximate and you cant go exactly with it. If she is active and do things that are necessary with her age, she's just fine. You know, my daughter, born 10 weeks earlier, weight 2.8kg. She is always 2 kg below her required weight. Now she is 4 yrs and still 13 kg. She's so skinny and you can count her bones! But she's so mischievous and so active, she's the most active and the brightest student in nursery. All her teachers say, she's like a pepper pod. So small but so hot! Give your daughter all the love and all the nurishments. Anyway, chubby kids tend to attract sicknesses later on. So skinnier the better (specially for girls). All the best and take care.

I think your daughter is healthy,if she is active not sick that means she is healthy.I have also a 10 months daughter and for my look she is skinny and i also ask my my pediatrician coz i am concern about the health of my baby but the doctor said she is fine. You know your daughter better than anyone else so just ignore the other people.I think if your baby is so active that is why they are so skinny coz they keep moving,as long as you feed your baby the healthy food there's nothing to worry. How many pounds is your baby right now?mine she's only 18.8.

Everyones baby developes differently. If you are conserned, and you are doubting even a little bit of what your doc. says, you should get a second opinion. You know your baby more then your doctor and if you are consirned about it, it is better to be safe then sorry, and just take her to be looked at by another doc. or even at your helth dept. Good luck with this!!!

yes you may be right in one sense but if you look at her she has to be little good and fat too as the children as they grow they ll become thiner and thinner so no need to worry but in the younger age they have to be little fat as per medical.

My son is the exact same way and always has been. He was born big, but then slowed down drastically on weight gain for a while. There was a time that he was barely above the 25th percentile for weight, but above the 75th for height. So we always heard comments about how thin he was. He's finally evening back out a little bit now, he's up to around the 50th percentile for weight and staying steady at about the 75th for weight. And it's amazing the difference that extra pound or two makes in the way that people look at us. Just ignore what everyone else says. You know that you are taking good care of your daughter. It might be hard to ignore them sometimes. I know I constantly felt like everyone was judging me about it, but I'm finally learning to stop worrying what everyone else thinks. My son can outeat kids twice his age or more. He's 13 months old and just as an example, today for lunch he had a grilled cheese, some sweet potato puffs, and a 4 oz jar of apple chunks. He also drank around 12 oz of milk at the same time. He had breakfast and has had two snacks today, too. He will still eat dinner and another snack before he goes to bed. He eats like this all the time. Someone saying I don't feed my child just seems ridiculous to me. I know what I feed him so I try not to worry about what others say.

Listen to your doctor,I had 5 children and none of them had that 'baby fat' plumpness but they were all healthy and the doctor was pleased with their growth and progress

If she has enough resistance against diseases and doctot feel so, then obviously she is healthy.

All children are different. My daughter was born 4 weeks early and has always been slender but extremely healthy. She is now 3 1/2 years old and the same height as others her age but not round and chubby. Don't compare your child to other children, they may eat differently, etc. Being plump doesn't mean they are even healthy! I feed my child all organic foods and fresh fruit or veggies as snacks!

I think you should believe the doctor. But if you still doubt, you may do an examination for the baby, then you will have a definite answer.

If your child were unhealthy or malnutritioned in any form she would not have such high energy levels. Some children naturally have a higher metalabolic rate than others. I really wouldn't worry as I'm sure you would know if there was something wrong.

I totally agree with your predatrician. I knows some kids persoanlly who have a hearty diet but are skinny ,thats because they never are idle. they don any thing but sitdown quietly And infact you should be happy about this habit that should keedp her healthy in the coming years

i share the same sentiment with you. my daughter is also thin and well, short for her age but she is really active and smart. sometimes, i wonder too why she is like that even if i am able to feed her and give her all her essential needs for her development. i think this is just normal because every child has different development and growth pattern and maybe ours does not come yet. maybe you should just take your time and be patient. if you are able to give all her needs, there is nothing for you to worry about.

Every child is different. My daughter was plump as ever...and actually it was recomended by the Ped to put her on a diet. I didn't agree and she soon slimed out. My son on the other hand is tall and thin for his age. He is almost three and I have to tack his size 2 pants. As long as the doctors say your daughter is just naturally thin and that everything is fine...I would not worrie one bit. Ignore the ignorance..as hard as it may be. This is hard simpily because people are assuming that you are not taking care of her properly...and that is not the case. Just state you case to these ignorant people. Tell them that your daughter is healthy, fed properly and that she is just naturally thin. Better yet...tell them to mind their own business :S

Your daughter may look thin to others, but if your pedia says she is fine, then she is. As long as she is active, strong, eats well and does not get sick too often you don't have to worry too much about it.

I dont think you should worry about this thing! I have seen many babies who look a bit lean and skinny, but they are actually perfectly fit! It looks to be the same in your case. Now that even Doctors have assured that your child is fine, stop worrying. You should be knowing that babies change their appearnace in very short time.. I mean if you see a baby after say 10 days, it looks much different than how you saw it 10 days back. So, may be your baby will have this time of hers coming very soon. Just wait and watch!

My son also was thin and skinny and he is till this day. But he eats well, he is active and healthy. What matters the most is good health. If your child is healthy then ignore what people have to say. What you can do is make her wear full sleeve clothes with frills. This will cover her skinny body to some extent.
