How many times can the same income be taxed?

I pay federal income taxes, state income taxes, social security taxes, medicare taxes, city taxes, and school taxes before I ever see my paycheck. I bought a home with money left after it had been taxed at least six times and had to pay sales taxes. I now pay real estate taxes every year on property bought with money that had been taxed at least six times (if not more). I bought a car to get back and forth to work so I could earn the money that gets taxed six times before I see it so I can make the payments on the house I bought with money left after it had been taxed at least six times and then had to pay sales tax for, and now before I can use the car that I bought and paid sales taxes on with money that had been already taxed at least six times I have to purchase a license every year for the car to be driven on the road and a license for myself every four years for the priviledge of driving the car that I bought with money that had already been taxed at least six times. In order to be able to use my car that was purchased with the money that I paid taxes on six times before I ever saw it and bought the required licenses that I had to pay taxes on with money that had already been taxed too many times...oops...I meant SO many times, not TOO many times. Anyway, I have to purchase fuel for my car and hey, guess what? I have to pay taxes on the gas I buy so I can drive my car that I bought with money already taxed time and again. This is confusing. I'm gonna stop before I run out of money to tax. YOUR TURN.......

It's true that we're taxed every time we turn around - about 52% for an average citizen of the US. I have said that if it weren't for taxes and insurance, I'd be in great financial shape. I left my job of 9 years a couple of months ago and the last two paychecks barely covered the taxes owed (contract work), for last year.

Ever wonder where all that money goes?

All of my money, or all the tax money? Or both? Yes, I've wondered about both!:)

What a great post! I'd say you got it exactly right. Don't forget that in many states you pay sales tax on food when you buy it with your money that's already been taxed six times, same for clothing and other necessities. In checking over my electric bill several months ago (after it had doubled), I found that only half of the bill was for usage...the rest was taxes and fees. It's like we're being taxed out of existance.

Check your phone bill. It's pretty much the same and I think we are all going to see a huge increase in the price of natural gas that we heat with in addition to the gasoline we use. When those prices go up, so will the amount of tax that we pay.
