vitamins - these vitamins look like they'd be hard to swallow.

How many of you take vitamins or supplements? My partner is crazy about his vitamins and takes them every day. Personally i like to take some garlic and horseradish/vitamin c tablets whenever I can feel a cold coming on. I think they can be very effective when one doesn't pay much attention to their diet. What's your opinion? Do you think some people depend too much on supplements?

Supplements are just that. They are to supplement the inadequate diet most people are on. If one eats a well balanced, well thought out diet, the need for supplements will diminish accordingly. A study was done that stated that garlic was not much benefit as a dietary source. Once thought to be a super food, it seems garlic is really nothing special.

I've always heard that garlic helped with things like cold sores and such.. Thats when I would take it, and it always seemed to clear the cold sore up. But then again, it may also be due to other factors clearing it up. I only know that I used to have a terrible time with cold sores that would last for weeks, but since I started taking garlic when I get them, I've never had one last longer than a few days.

really? Garlic always kills my colds when I take it early enough. Maybe it's just all in my head!

I'm taking vitamins when i feel i need them. During my stressful days, then i will take multivitamin everyday.Calcium is believed to help in relieving PMS symptoms,so i take sometimes before my menstrual period. Pill-popping has become part of the lifestyle,i think. But since i think i can get it most from my diet,so i do not take vitamins/supplements everyday.Like Vitamin C,i only take it when i catch flu. I'm reading the books by Allan N.Spreen "Why the American diet is dangerous and how to defend yourself-Nutritionally Incorrect". I believe before we buy and pop the pills into our mouth,we should know a bit about what we are taking. Vitamin A,D,E and K are those that cannot dissolve in the water,so taking too much can cause side effects since they're accumulated in the body. So the best way is check before you take.

When I take vitamins I don't really think about it as me not needing to eat anything healthy for the rest of the day because I've already gotten my nutrients... I just take it and don't think about it for the rest of the day. It doesn't affect my diet at all. I take Lysine and Vitamin C every day.

For the last three months I am just taking B-complex vitamins plus Vitamin C. I don't eat meat so I need a B-12 supplement. My regular supplements are Vitamins E, and C. But once in a while I try other supplements especially those claiming about anti-aging, energy and immune boosters or hormonal imbalances. At one point in my life, I have tried taking Royal Jelly, Lecithin, Evening Primrose Oil, Spirulina, Zinc. I always go back to Vitamin C and E once I feel that after taking a bottle of 100s of these tablets/capsules, they don't make any difference to my health anymore.

I usually take vitamins on a regular basis. I've taken garlic tablets before, and I take a multi-vitamin every morning. But I do think that there are some people who just go vitamin crazy and they act like if they're not taking 20 different pills every morning they're going to die. I think vitamins can be a good addition to your lifestyle whether you have a healthy diet or not. They can add that little bit of extra nutrients that you need and may not be getting elsewhere.
