My husband read me something that he read online about Simon...

It said that he was upset that Sanjaya got picked for the top 12 and if he won the competition he'd quit the show. Obviously Sanjaya will not win, but don't you think he's negatively influencing America's vote for him? I think there's definitely something about him that appeals --he's not a bad singer at all, he's just very young and inexperienced.

I think Simon is making his point very clearly - if America votes him best, America has absolutely no ability to appreciate musical talent. Sanjaya *isn't* very good, when you break it down. He's entertaining, in his way, but he is by no means Idol material. I can completely understand where Simon is coming from. There is nothing more frustrating than a very large group of vocal idiots.

Yeah, Senjaya isn't the best vocalist there. He has some growing up to do, but for some reason enough people voting like him enough to keep him on the show. I think that he only has two more weeks at most left. As for Simon, I think that he speaks his mind mostly, and plays a part for the show a little bit. There has to be some sort of conflict occuring or there wouldnt be as much to get excited about. Besides, a lot of the time he's right.

Oh definitely, he right --no question about that, but it's a good thing I don't have to live with him!

This is interesting, I had not heard anything about Simon's comment until now. I've never been a fan of Sanjaya and was very shocked to see him move onto the top 12, you could tell that all the judges (even Paula) were shocked as well. Simon's comment could influence the votes, but it could encourage the votes either way. People who hate Simon might keep voting for him to see Simon quit the show and the people who love Simon might listen to what he says and stop voting for him. Either way, I think that if someone is a true fan they will continue voting regardless of what Simon says, overall I don't think it will have much of an impact.

You're probably right, I just don't think that behavior is what the show should be about. I'm very happy to see they are giving back to charity though. That was a surprise!

Okay maybe Simon's being over-dramactic about quiting the show if Sanjaya wins. I don't think he's happy Taylor won either. I love Taylor, but maybe Simon still couldn't see the star quality he has. Simon prefers those with obvious star qualities. Sanjaya has lots of stuff to work on. He's not ready yet.

who knows what really goes on behind the scenes on that show! simon is certainly the only one who's opinion counts, randy and paula just go along their way, not being so insulting, and mean.

Since the beginning, I've always liked Sanjaya. He's obviously not as good as most everyone else in the top 12, but I think he deserves a chance. Remember Sundance the first week that they sang on their own and America voted? He was terrible! He just had to step it up a little. I'm willing to give Sanjaya a chance, because I think he's a lot better than he looks right now. I think it is rude of Simon to say those things, because everyone in the top 12 (Heck, even everyone in the top 24) came a long way and they obviously have talent in order to be there. America voted...I can't say I completely agree with HOW they voted, but I think it's unfair to Sanjaya to be making those commments and he defintely deserves more respect than that.

I think that Simon does go way overboard with some of his comments though if Sanjaya wins there is definitely something wrong with America. He does not have a bad voice as it is just he does not know how to use it properly and shows no life on stage and as you said inexperienced. Maybe in time with practice and coaching he would do better but there is no way he should win this year based on his performances. Simon's comments do seem to have a lot of influence with America but not all the time. Sanjaya is still here.

If people vote or not for Sanjaya based on a comment from Simon, then it makes me think that people can't think for themselves. I think there are a lot better singers on than Sanjaya, and people should vote based on talent not on someone's comments. Personally, I don't believe that Sanjaya has what it takes, he does have a nice voice, but I find his singing boring. I was shocked when Sundance was booted and Sanjaya stayed, but I think it had a lot to do with the teeny bopper crowd voting for looks over talent. As for Simon, if the singers don't know by now how he is and can't take the slack, then maybe they shouldn't be on the show. Yes, Simon is rude, but he has been that way since the show's beginning, and Sanjaya isn't the first person Simon has bashed, and I am sure he won't be the last. Ironically, when Simon does compliment one of them, the contestants seem to appreciate it more.

I have to agree with Simon on this one. Sanjaya does not desrve to be in the top 12, and if America boted strictly on talent alone then he wouldn't be there. But it is a proven fact that America votes on looks, or other factors. Sanjaya has just an okay vote, but he is a horrible performer, has no charisma, and is not comfortable on stage. He is just young and needs to get a littel more experience under his belt. I don't think Simons comments will make a difference either way. People are going to vote the way they want to no matter what. And Idol would not last very long without Simon. I know he is rude, but he is very entertaining and a big reason why Idol is a huge success. If Sanjaya really wants to get into the buisness then he best get used to hearing people say bad things about him, it is just part of the deal.

i agree that i think his siter should have made it to top 24 instead of him. she had more charisma and seemed to be more outgoing. i think he is just young and does not really want to be there...honestly i dont think he does. he does not project his voice at all...i like him but he needs to learn to open up...

I think Simon should strictly stick to whether he thinks Sanjaya is talented enough or not and comment on the performance, the rest is for America to decide, I mean no need to be so upfront becuase thats what the show is all about. If they didnt want the votes they wouldnt have asked for them right? Just made the judges decide who shoudl stay and who shouldnt. Personally, there are better people than Sanjaya on the show but that doesnt mean Sanjaya has no right to be there and it also doesnt give Simon a right to attack his popularity with such venom. And when you are judge, thats what your job is, tolerate the not so good with the best, till the very best is chosen. You cant take it out all on one candidate cause you are so unhappy with very many untalented people you had had to suffer.

I've been wondering myself why Sanjaya is still on the show. I feel it probably would've benefitted him had he been voted off at some point because he's only 17 and there's all this negative attention. He is a good singer, but he's very 'soft' and he's very shy. Perhaps if he auditions again when he's a little older, that would be great, but there's all this negativity and I'm sure he knows all about it.

Honestly, I've always had a problem with Sanjaya. Every week a pray he'll be the one to get voted off, he annoys me and I don't know why. And I don't think he sounds that great, he's nothing special to me.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. I think that Sanjaya is a semi-decent singer, sure, but America definitely got it wrong in voting him in and not EITHER of the other two guys that went home the other night!! It's gotten to the point where it's just embarassing, for America...for American Idol...for the judges...EVEN FOR SANJAYA that he is STILL there!! Remember a few seasons back when America voted out Latoya London? Oh man, the uproar! She was amazing! As for Simon's comments influencing America's vote...that is what they are SUPPOSED to do, but this is NOT the first time that Simon has spoken out about Sanjaya not being very good. In fact, all 3 of the judges have commented EVERY SINGLE WEEK about Sanjaya's lack of...talent! Well, at the very least, his lack of talent on the level of the rest of the competitors. Clearly their opinions are influencing the American audience...but not in the way that they're hoping to! The American public is keeping Sanjaya to piss Simon off, I think! I was pissed when Sanjaya made it into the top 12. He's has MORE that enough opportunities to prove that he deserves to be there, and so far hasn't done so. Sadly, I can't vote because I live in Canada. *sigh*

No, he is not a bad singer, he just needs some more developing. But if he does win, which I think if far fetched, then I would probaly stop watching. SIKE! But we have to realize, the majority of the folks calling for him are probaly teen aged girls and his peers.

There's two ways America can view Simon (or any of the other judges') comments. The first is by agreeing with them and basing their vote on that agreement. The second is by disagreeing with them and basing their vote on that. People might think Simon is right and not vote for Sanjaya, while others might feel sorry for Sanjaya or think he is a great performer and vote for him in spite of Simon's opinion. Basically, the judges are there to give advice and personal opinion to the contestants and the voting public.

I think Sanjaya should have been ousted before his sister. He is not good at all- Not compared to the other guys on the show- But I don't think that SImon should be saying that kind of stuff either. It is now America's time to vote-- He had his say when they put him into Hollywood. He does influence people-- I would never vote for Sanjaya to stay- but obviously some people are. My favorites are Chris Richardson and Chris Sligh.

Simon is sometimes so stupid. I mean I dont know much about this Sanjaya guy but Simon has to give some respect. Honest is okay brutally honesty is also fair but rudely insanely disrecpectfully honest is bad though I enjoy his comments like that but this one is overboard. Btw does Sanjaya has origins in India?
