Before we had a computer and the internet I've always enjoyed reading. I still do. I still crave for good books. In fact, there's one book I want to read. It's "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" Have you read it? Anyway, using the internet still requires reading but I would strongly encourage others to read books. I think it causes less eye strain compared to staring at the computer hehehe Also, I feel more relaxed when I read. I think it's because I can read sitting down, standing up, lying in bed or whatever.

I think reading is important, as we learn a lot from the books. Not only the knowledge, but also to improve our thinking, hence it improves our lives. Reading triggers us to think more. Yeah, computers, TV, Internet really did distract me from reading, but I still keep a habit of reading books, not only e-books. I really enjoy the feeling of flipping the books, which you can't find it when reading an e-book. :p

I agree with you about books improving your capacity for thinking and sadly it's a rare gift in today's society as we are often too ready to accept what is presented to us in the news or media without exploring it further, I suppose it's laziness which oddly enough is the same reason why reading is such a chore for some, great post

I love reading. My mom told me the one of the first thing i touch was book. I love reading books and it is very important in my life.I can say it is vital.Reading means knowledge. Since this is the new century,i think we can limit 'reading' to the term of reading books only.As far as it involve of the process "you read" and "take the information into your brain",i think that can be considered reading. My career need me to be knowledgable..so i read books and mostly from articles online.

I believe that even in this age where technology has advanced remarkably, the company of good books should still be encouraged. I remember my own childhood so well. We didn't have electricity so, the tv was out of the question. But I could trace a genetic link to love of reading. My mother, who is 55 years ols by now, is fond of reading. I even think she feels she's missing half of her life when she isn't reading anything. I am another bookworm who reads anything --- from old, faded magazines to old newspapers which have been used as grocery wrapper (we have that here in the Philippines). I have gained much information from reading than by actual interaction. My daughter, who is 9 years old by the way, is also hooked on reading. I borrow books from the library because she throws a tantrum when I fail to do so... and I have found out that the effect of the tv and of the books on children is almost the same: They make children deaf! I mean, when they are so self absorbed in what they are reading or watching, they pretend not to hear you. But since I have the option to not have our malfunctioning TV repaired, I am hoping that my daughter's love for literature will go on...

i love reading i can do it for hours at a time. it's like once i get started on a really good book hours just fly by. what is funny is that i use to hate to read because i had a hard time learning but now that i have found a genre that i really like i cann't stop reading.

The question whether one needs to cultivate the habit of reading is a very personal one indeed. Campaigns after campaigns have been promoted here in my country to nurture the habit of reading... but it too fell on a deaf ears... The world changes, so we change with you... what's more important to keep yourself prepared with the challenges ahead by keeping youself informed through reading... otherwise, you will just lose out in the race... and you are still wondering why...

Reading books is a great activity to exercise the mind and imagination. It also gives your eyes a break from the glowing screens of the computer and TV.

I've loved reading for as long as I can remember, and still do. I'm so thankful that my three-year-old daughter already prefers books to television, too. I think that reading is so important - it exercises the brain, helps develop imagination, and helps with grammar and vocabulary skills. Very important for children, and a great escape for adults - I just can't see why anyone wouldn't love reading.
