I've seen a few shows about people who keep wild animals for pets. Do you think a person should have special qualifications for keeping a wild animal? Have you ever heard of or do you know anyone who was injured or killed by their wild animal pet? Can wild animals be tamed? What do you think about cross-breeding wild animals with domesticated animals?

If an animal had been injured and became unable to fend for itself because it now trusted humans too much, then that would be a case for adoption of that animal. Not sure about whales or elephants, but you get the drift lol Once knew a guy who had a pet fox...it had been a newborn and the mother had been killed. He reared the fox like a dog and could be seen walking it on a lead !

It would depend on what you mean by a wild pet. A tiger is wild and probably not a good pet choice for anyone. A squirrel is wild, but in the right situation, cared for properly would make a wonderful pet. I've known people with pet skunks, pet raccoons, flying squirrels, small monkeys (def. a hard pet to keep) and assorted 'wild' reptiles. So long as the person is educated about what those animals need and committed to providing a good home for them, I don't have any problem with those animals being pets. Someone getting something just because it's "cool" & they like to show off, is a problem even if that "cool" animal is as common as a cat or dog.

I new a guy that had a small tiger as a pet. If his father didn't raise cows for a living, then the thing would have ended up eating him out of house and home. He eventually donated the animal to a local zoo. Personally, I think that wild animals should be kept just that, wild. No one wins as usually the pet and owner are eventually for some reason or another. At least with large animals, parrots and the like are OK.

I am completely against the keeping of wild animals as pets. Wild animals deserve to be just that, wild. Domesticating them is not only next to impossible, but there's always the risk that they will revert to their original habits. They will always be unstable, and they will always remember how to be the wild animal that they are, regardless of how they are looked after, and what their relationship with their carer is. I think cross breeding wild animals with domestic animals is the most insane thing I've heard in a long time. What is wrong with leaving wild animals as they are? Do we as humans have to control EVERYTHING?
