my daughter is 3 and loves to cook with me. we make lots of stuff together. her favorite is chocolate chip cookies. we also like to make pizza and she eats more veggies on it if she gets to put them on herself. she also loves to do at least one thing to help out with the preporation of every meal.

Good for you!I've always done this with my kids....they all can cook for themselves when they want to and the youngest is 9.....it not only teaches them how to cook and prepare food, but it also teaches them respect around the stove and oven

I don't have any kids. However I do let my niece cook with me. She gets a chair and stands right beside me, watching and helping. I actually enjoy having her there. I get a lot of enjoyment watching her little hands trying to mix cake batter, and she has a blast. To me, I think that there is no better joy than seeing the excitement they get over helping. It's new to them, and I think that we should all take great joy in teaching them to do things like that. It makes my eyes water up, when I see how happy it makes her.

That is wonderful that you are letting her particpate in preparing meals! She will likely grow up enjoying cooking and also a very responsible girl! As you point out, if she helps prepare it, she will take pride in it and likely eat more! What a great mommy you are!

I let my toddler help me with the baking. She loves to mix stuff and loves to gather the ingredients. I make sure I put the ingredients in tupperwares she can't open alone incase she decided to bake by herself. She enjoys it and I love baking with her. I have a timer and she loves keeping an eye on it so we can retrieve the cookies or cake from the oven. I am glad that she is interested in doing this stuff so when she gets bigger, I have someone to help me around in the kitchen =)

My daughter is 4 she and I cook together all the time. She even gets to pick some of the meals each week. For instance she loves the tator tot casserole because she can put everything together then I put it in the oven. She is so proud when we put it on the table she tells her daddy straight off that she made dinner. I love spending the extra mommy time with her.

Yes, my kids help me all the time in the kitchen. My son is 5 and he REALLY loves to help! I got him an easy bake oven for Christmas. Well, it was for both of them, but I knew my son would be more interested than my daughter. :) Like you, we do pizza together, cookies, breads, etc. My son LOVES to help me make homemade yeast bread. He loves it when it rises and he gets to punch it down.

Wow! that is what we call "BONDING" w/ kids. It reminds me when I was little when I always go to my parents bedroom and sleep w/ them. hehehehhe But now, I'm in a different place, we have lesser contact w/ each other. I really miss them! It takes 3 years first before I could go to my home place.

My daughter is 5 and she would love it if she can cook already, you know stir the pot while it is still in the stove. Hahaha, But I do let her help me out, specially when I cook pancakes or any recipe that requires mixing, I also let her wash the kitchen stuff, not the knife though, and I even let her pour the broth or water into the pot provided that she lets me guide her and I'm beside her. I try not to stop my children from doing or helping out when they want, coz I believe the more I try to stop them the more they'll try to do it. I fear they (her and her cousins) might try to cook something by themselves if I/we don't let them help out in the kitchen.

Yes, my son is three, he loves to sit at the counter when I cook, he says, "I want to cook dinner, too." So if there is like cheese in something, he washes his hands and helps me put the stuff in. He stays on the other side of the counter away from the stove, he stirs things, he just loves it. He sees daddy cook every once in a while too. He really just loves to help with anything. He is a great kid.

My daughter is 2. She loves to help me cook too! I only allow her to help if I think it's safe. She also likes to help with the dishes. I always pull a chair up to the counter for her when she wants to help.

At this time my son is just 9 months old but whenever I am cooking I make sure that somebody is holding my child, away from danger like fire and other hazardous things in the kitchen. telling him of what I am doing because I know he can already grasp what I am teaching him, i do this so he will enjoy all the food that i will prepare for the family and that he will get used in cooking, even if he is a boy he should know how to cook in the near future.
