My youngest used to freak out when it came to washing her hair. So I started having her put her washcloth, folded up, over her eyes as I poured the water over head. Then the water doesn't get in her eyes and she doesn't freak out. This is what worked for me.

about a year ago, i also had the same problem with my daughter. she's so afraid that the suds might sting her eyes and that she might not be able to breath when water is poured on her head. the solution came unexpectedly one day when we went to the mall. guards in department stores check the bags of those who enter. the lady guard on duty checked my bag, smiled, said "hello" and touched my daughter's head affectionately. that surprised my kid. she asked me why the lady guard did that. her nanny was quick to answer: "because she is checking if you had a shampoo, baby." that did it. she was so afraid that she won't be allowed to enter the mall is she doesn't want to be shampooed. never again did she cry in the shower. thank god for the clever nanny.

when my granddaughters came to stay with me I used to stand beside them and let them wash their hair in the shower , i would put the shampoo on for them and they did the rest the always had fun that way and the shower rinsed it clean , they are now 13 and 17 , xx

Depending on the situation, I will either be gentle or just quickly rinse their hair by pouring water on their head, warning them to put their head back. I believe they will learn they want to put their head back so they won't get as much water in their eyes. Another trick is to give them a dry wash cloth and have them hold it over their eyes (if they are too young to do so then you can do do it with one hand-multi tasking). The cloth will protect for the most part and when you are finished washing their hair all they have is a little moisture on their eyelids.

Try letting her watch you wash your own hair, when she sees you letting the water go on your own head/face she will see that the water wont hurt her! Maybe she had a bad experience that you dont know about,???? the washcloth idea is a really good one, try combining my idea with that one and you should win her over eventually! :) Just Dont Give Up!
